Hi Guys,

well i'm new to the porsche side of the site but I have a question for you,

I'm looking at a 96 N reg 993 cabriolet this weekend, its showing 44k miles and is on HPI as a cat-d but has been repaired very well, but no history on this, apparently the repair was carried out in 1998, its up for £24k, now this does sound cheap to me , but if the cars in good overall condition is it a bargain? has porsche service history as well..

what are your thoughts...have been looking for a chimaera but alwats fancied a 993 now this one has come up and i'm tempted...any advise would be appreciated.

thanks

S.

BE CAREFULL !!! I wouldn't touch an accident repair car without it being rubber stamped by the Official Porsche dealer/repair network. Proper repair work ain't cheap & 911's are renowned for needing their geometary & chassis spot on to avoid going backwards through hedges & eating tyres. Either get it properly inspected or walk away, anyway what you save on the price now is relative as it will always be worth less come resale.
P.S. Don't forget to check out an early Boxter S before you make that 993/Chimera decision.

Personally I would walk away,,,a 993 is a performance car.If you are going to drive it in the manner it was designed for do you need ANY doubts about the cars strength or handling characteristics,,,even if you save £10k on the car ,so what...get a good one enjoy it & get most if not all your money back when you come to sell it.

good advise,

was planning on getting an AA inspection done, but now, if it does get that far would morelikely get a porsche dealer inspection done or maybe a specialist, I think camtune would be the closest.. does seem cheap at the price, as for the depreciation, not a major factor, yes you get back less when you sell, but then you have paid less when you bought, and if it does check out OK its a very reasonable price and I cant see it depreciating massivly over the next 30k miles/4 years, maybe down to £18k which isnt bad really.....but I shall see on sat how much I like it...silly comment really...

It's only £4k or so cheaper than a non-repaired non-variocam private sale car would be...IMHO that's not enough price differential. Some say that a damaged repaired registered car is only worth at best 2/3 of the market value for an equivalent straight car. In today's marketplace I'd want to pay no more than £15k for the car...but then I'm not a car trader am I
