squeek squeek

Hi all.. during general driving this 500 has a most distracting squeek. It sounds as if its coming from the parcel shelf. If sort of got used to it, but every passenger has noted it & i'd rather they didnt think these fantastic cars are shoddy!

I'll be pulling off the carpetting asap to take a look n see if anything obvious; meantime anyone got any thoughts as to what this might be?

I had a similar thing on mine, it only went after I replaced the rear droplinks.

I have/had a similar problem ... boot lid hinges were one source of the irritation but sorted with locktite and nylocks ! worth a punt

ta for replies.. however sounds too close for shocks/droplinks/boot hinges... it's literally just under the shelf's carpet (to my ear anyhow). Maybe a de-carpetting sesh will spill the beans....

Mine does the same... it's the suspension bushes that squeak.. I use waterproof silicon spray.. keeps them quiet for a month or two..

Hi, fit powerflex bushes, they never squeek. As a general sugestion, get your wife to lie upside down in the footwell whilst you drive along, won't fix anything, but sounds like a laugh!

Hey, thats an easy one. Junk your obviously quiet and subdued exhuast for a nice decatted sports system and trust me, your passengers will never have a chance of hearing any squeaks! (or the radio!)

Alternatively, get a cat!

Similar thing,

I had removed the drop links to do some re-furb, when I put them back they must have been the wrong way round and the noise drove me crazy after removing and refitting every thing to do with the suspension I tracked it down to the drop links, once swapped back over all I could hear was that gorgeous burble.

not got round to doing anything yet.. however after using the car to commute today I pushed the rump of it up & down & its def the rear suspension, nearside

Could also be the upper wishbone bushes-they tend to tear and the the wishbone(where the bush sits)then touches the chassis,the 2 rub together and sqeek.
Fit new bushes(press out and in)and fit plastic spacers either end to stop the bushes from tearing.

To rule out the drop-links (or not as the case may be), why not diconnect them where they attach to the wishbone and then drive the car. If the noise goes it was the drop-links, if not keep looking.

Had the car up on jacks today to fit the seats, so gave the rear bushes a damned good spray. Heading up to Bucks in a couple of hours; we'll see if it's silenced the squeeks then ! If you see E82TVR give us a wave !
