Hi All,
Soz if this has been asked a million times before, but I'm looking at buying a Noble and am looking for advice before I buy one. I'm looking for a GTO-3 as I've been told of a few issues with the 2.5 which have been ironed out with the 3.0, is this right?
Apart from HPI and getting it looked over, anything likely to trip me up? I'm coming from a skyline and two Lancer Evos which were all fantasically reliable and don't want to be in the garage every week for repairs!!
I'm sure you will all put my mind at rest
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave - the Noble is not unreliable - but some of the earlier cars had diff problems
if you want to get one make sure that
a) it has a track day sump - or you plan to fit one
b) it has a 6 speed box - or be prepared to fit a new diff at some stage
there are a couple of things that may need looking into like the relocation of the throttle cable and rewiring to the fuel pump - lots of them have had it done
if you want a Noble mechanic to look at one for you try Gary Reynolds 07868 702440
the skyline and evo's are great cars - but totally different to a Noble

Thanks for that,
That's why I'm changing, I've driven Jap stuff for a long time and fancy a change. Won't be able to afford a six speed, so I'll have to keep a bit of money in the piggy bank!

Dave, If you fit a six spd you should always fit the M400 linkage. This is not cheap and you are better off finding a car with it already done. Also you need to make sure the car has a LSD.

I thought the 5 speed was okay as long as you had a LSD? H
H,
This is true the 5spd should hold up with an LSD. it's the diff thats the week link. I don't know if some GTO3's have the std diff or not.

D_G, I came from a 3000GT - the Noble is a completely different beast.
I found that the GT made me lazy in that all the traction control, 4WS and 4WD made it almost too easy to drive (not sure if all the Jap cars have these but it wouldn't surprise me). It never, ever got out of shape - the Noble on a cold wet day though is a bit of an eye opener if you're not ready for it.
Do it though, you won't regret it!
P.S. Is there any way to see if the car has an LSD just by looking at it?

I came from a jap 4wd and yes the traction was fantastic. The jap cars are not a thrilling to drive as a Noble (IMHO) but are great cars in their own right. Be careful though, I span the rear wheels in third gear last night at about 50mph. Took me by surprise. That never happened in my GT4.
an ATB is an Automatic Torque Biasing differential
its a Limited Slip Differential with a different design

Yes, you'll see the words 'LSD' hand-painted on the bell housing!
I bet everyone with an open diff is about to paint LSD on their bell housing!!! Only real way is to jack the car up, if the wheels spin the same way it has lsd if they rotate in opposite directions it has an open diff, at that point walk away!!! They just can't take the power!!

I've also had the odd interesting momment but it's has always been "Whoops being a bit silly" and not "Oh no I'm going to die!". When my Noble has got out of shape (2 - 3 times) it's been so easy to correct (Less right foot!). I guess what I'm trying to say it's just an massive buzz to drive and don't be at all put off by it's lack of electronic gismos, it don't need them!
Mate, you have to do it. It's fantastic fun, and it feels great to actually drive a car.
I also came to the Noble from 4x4 (Audi S4) and can honestly say I don't regret it. Although the dynamics do change dramtically and you have to show it respect.
The other GOOD thing is that since I have owned it (4 months) I have not seen another one whilst I have been in mine. You can't say that about any of the Jap motors.
Do it!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for everyone's comments, it's decided and I'm soon to be a new owner! Can I check with the factory if any potential car has the LSD diff fitted (if the letters on the casing aren't there), or are there other places for this info?
Cheers

Just do a chav style burn-out. 1 line = no lsd. 2 lines = lsd.
