Smashed headlight
Discussion
I drove into a hailstorm of pea shingle on the M3 earlier today. Picked up some nice chips in the bonnet, and a smashed headlamp glass too. Thankfully the radiator is OK (dont have a grille).
Question - other than a direct replacement glass, which I believe I can find the details of on the Chimaera Pages website, are there any alternative (i.e. more modern) lamps designs available for the Chim? Anyone know?
I thought I wouldd take the opportunity to change both glasses, and maybe the reflectors too, as the both sides reflectors have got pitted and dull.
Thanks!

I thought mine were the same - on closer inspection the lamps were full of dirt, dead flies and other assorted crap! The insides of the glass was filthy too. Once I'd cleaned them all up, difference was amazing - not as good as HIDs but a damn sight better all the same.
I think clever trevor has the lenses on his web site and the reflectors too.
Buy the rubber seals that seal lens to reflector while your at it.

Will be replacing mine soon too, O/S head lamp bulb just gone.
Cheers Paul.

Cheers - I havent seen this site before - it's the biz! Yeah, I need the seals, as mine came apart when I was removing all the remaining shards of broken glass.
I too removed the headlamp glass and cleaned it all up. Looks a lot better and the lights work much better as well.
But the lamp is not sealed at the back.
The rear of the relector is open into the void in front of the wheelarch. Dirt from the vents at the front gets in here and because obviously the refector is not sealed to the headlight surround,(if it was headlight adjustment would be impossible), dirt gets onto the inside of the glass and the shiny side of the relector.
Am I missing something here or is it "they are all like that Sir"?

According to Fernhurst, where I got my new lens this afternoon, TADTS.
BTW - I decided to take off the other (unbroken) lens and give both it and the reflector a clean-up, as I didnt want one bright twinkly "eye" and one dull one. BTW - I put the lens in the diswasher. Came up dead shiny. Top tip...
