Hi Guys

What do you think of Cerbera seats in a Griffith? I ask because there's a perfect pair on ebay at present and I'm sorely tempted. I know all the last SEs had these seats fitted as standard. What are they like to use on a regular basis?

Much more comfortable than the normal ones and hold you a lot better in the corners IMHO!

Not sure on fitting (drop straight in or needs modifying)!

Go for it.

There's and article I wrote about this on www.TheGriffithPages.com
Look under Resources / Mods and Maintenance / Interior

It tells you how to install them and how to calculate headroom.

What are they like? The difference is like getting a new sofa. You realise how squashy, unsupportive and damned uncomfortable the old one actually was when you get the new one.
I've done two trips to Le Mans in my Griff and not had back ache - mainly due to the little pump gadget which allows you to pump up the lumbar support.

Ah, one thing Ricardo. Seat Belts. The side bolsters on the Cerb seats are much deeper and unless you've got the extra long seatbelt stalks you will need to change them. If you are serious about the seats I will measure mine for you.

Given that he's posted this all over the place, (It's "Cerbera seats in a Chimaera" on the Chim forum) I imagine he's selling them and this is a way round the "no advertising in the forums" rule. Naughty person.

No I'm not selling - I just want all round advice before going for them. I have been told that they sit a bit higher - is that true?

yes

And I don't think they are more comfortable, either. 2 problems, firstly they don't move as far forward so Mrs 97 short-arse can't reach the pedals and secondly the lumbar support (even when deflated) is brutal

Ricardo, I've just installed a pair in my Griff. They are definitely more comfortable and offer far more support BUT they are a pig to install! In addition to the advice already published I also did two mods:
1.In order to avoid having to use the old trapped bolts, which weren't long enough to go through my spacers and florr strenghteners, I had to cut away some of the runners at the back. I can now get a spanner on to the new longer bolts easily.
2. To get the seats to go as far back as I require (6ft 3" I had to do an extra modification to the seat backs.
Because of the seat belt winder, the Cerb seats won't go back far enough. TVR did a mod to the later cars when installing these seats - I have attempted to copy. It involves slitting open the leather on the back around the bottom corner. Then carving out the corner of the fibreglass by about 1" ,approx 6" up from the base. After re-sticking the leather, the seat now goes all the way back and doesn't interfere with the belt unit.

Now awaiting some leather paint from Frosts to match the new with the old !

Are they the same colour as your interior?

No theyre not the same colour; however part of Ed's masterplan is to dye my current interior to magnolia (loved it in my ex 500) using something mentioned on a recent thread

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=325015&f=9&h=0

tho not sure what's best yet. I like the sound of www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/ spray dye as long as I can work out how to disassemble the interior bit by bit! the seats will be easy of course (Expect I'll fit & enjoy them for a while as is)

Hi,

I fitted a set in about an hour. Dead simple, straight in. Although, I suspect that there are possibly more than one type of Cerbera seat out there.

The big risk is the loss of headroom. I am 6'2 and to be honest wouldn't do it again as it means my head is stuck a little under the cross bar.

although not got around to dying them yet (and still debating exactly what colour...) couldnt resist - just fitted the drivers seat. Much better IMHO. the lumbar support is great for my crappy back. Think they look spot on too. Tightening up at the end was hard..mostly due to corrosion on nuts under the car. Reckon I'll ditch the lot & just get a new set when I do it properly.. one day!
