Mac Mini Hosting CoLo/Managed ?
Discussion
Hmm, not heard of that before, but can't see any particular flaws in it, as long as they offer the environment you need for your content - ie. no point going for it if you've got ASP.NET pages to host.
I guess it's got to be better than X-Box hosting though, as you've got a very stable and pretty secure platform on the Mac. Which web server are they using though?

Thought about using a spare one we have here for a while, but haven't got round to doing it yet - here's a weblog of someone giving it a go

I'd suggest Apache, PHP would be the basics. Pretty easy to install those on Macs (hell they usually come with Apache anyway).

Can't argue with that.... but I can't help wondering why you'd want to for £600 a year?

I'm not sure what classes as good value for datacentre prices - £50 a month is bad then?

Given 1amp of power now costs > £50 a month in TeleCityRedbus (Europes Largest DC company), and that's before you get to the Cabinet Space, the Support, the Bandwidth, the Profit, the Taxes etc..
IMHO Colo is going to die off in the next 12 mths, the Demographic of clientele it attracts are typically those who want the moon on a stick, and want to pay as little for it as possible, as such they just arent viable, let alone desirable.
You'll be able to Colo in the US, or in a few of the 'non mainstream' out of London Datacentres.. but in all honesty, Why would you WANT to colo a Mac Mini? just Lease an apple xServe if you want Mac hosting?

Interesting that, as it's something we've seen with a few clients over the years. They want the benefits of Colo, but get put off by the costs. We'd ended up implementing a web round-robin approach in one system, as that worked out better for them. Our big clients have their own infrastructure with multiple sites these days (in some cases spread far enough apart to be nuclear safe, old cold ware paranoia!), do you find the potential Colo customers are those that can't afford (or don't want) to do it themselves?

Typically.. and I am generalising here..
Those who want small scale colo (under a dedicated cabinet) are those for whom cost is an overriding concern.
Those for whom cost isnt an issue will typically take a Rented server, for the added security and peace of mind the hardware support the host will offer (ie for us, we offer a 24/7/365 2 hour hardware replacement SLA)... Imagine the story if you colo a server, and it dies at 3am xmas eve or some other such terrible time... do you REALLY want to drive x hours to the Datacentre, to find out the PSU and motherboard are fried, and nowhere is open for spares until Jan 3rd :|
Colo will still exist, just not in Docklands, and certainly not for the bargain basement prices of old..
