NIP - £60+3 points, court to dispute, or £60+speed seminar?
Discussion
Heard last night that a good friend's Dad has just been Gatsoed and offered 3 options after completing the NIP in his name...
1 - £60 fine and attend a speed awareness course
2 - £60 fine and 3 points
3 - go to court to argue.
Any one heard of number 1 before? And when is this used?
Guess which one he is going for?
Virgil.

If he has been offered the course, take it! It avoids the points
(There may be a slight additional charge fo rthe course, but IMO that charge is still better than points. Whether it is in this case is up to the individual concerned.)
As I understand it, the courses are offered only when the 'victim' (for want of a better word) is within a very narrow range over the limit.

If he goes on hte course he'll have to nod and agree that he's been a very naughty boy and no doubt killed thousands of children in the process.
He'll not be allowed to voice his opinion on speed being ok in certain circumstances, and he'll have to sit in a room and be talked at by a sandal wearing "brake" type spouting rubbish.
However, it would avoid the points, although I think he'd have to declare to insurance company still.
I'd do the course, and sit on my hands - but I'd be tempted to take the points instead, dependent on the difference in insurance quotes...

I'm not sure I COULD take the course and keep my mouth shut.
What happens if you take the course, take along a bunch of useful stats from SS and the gov'ts latest stats, and argue the toss with them?!?
(Seriously...could they still hit you with the SP30?...because if not, that would be worth the extra cost of the course...they try and tell you it's bad, you trot out the gov'ts latest 5% stat and ask them how bad it can be compared to all the other causes!)
That's a funny document.
"...we could lose vital general public support for remote camera enforcement, something we currently have."
Which world is that in??
The course itself, to pass drivers have to "demonstrate a willingness to make a commitment to improve speed awareness skills and attitudes". Which is meaningless bollox. I assume that by "improve" and "attitudes" they mean "stay under the posted limit" but that's not what it says........

I would take the points and elect to attend their wretched course. You should make a point of arguing with everything the course leader has to say, generally be a blessed nuisance and disruptive and subversive element. I'll guarantee there are other folk on the course who'll join in with you and gang up against the "teacher". Hopefully he'll be like the "spanner teacher" we all had at school and who's daily life was made a misery by the naughty horrid little children. It'll be terrific fun!

You were obviously the sort of child at school who would have benefited from a swift clip round the ear!
