What pre 1966 car does a GTR resemble most?
Discussion
I've been working the registration issue lately myself. I'm told if you put down a 1985 or older anything in Alabama it will go right through. (which I'm considering.) I spent a few hours the last couple days on the phone with the State of Illinois trying to sort it. It sounds like in IL the title and reg will say "specially Constructed vehicle" not Ultima. I'm wondering from a future resale value, would it be better if it was A) 2003 "Specially Constr Vehicle" or
B) 1967 Ultima GTR?
B) 1967 Ultima GTR?
Bearing in mind that there's no such thing as a 1967 Ultima GTR, you'd probably be better off saying that it's a new specially constructed vehicle. I would assume that naybody buying the car from you would be aware of the regulations, and accept that, to you it's an Ultima GTR, while to the government it's a generic "Vehicle".
We don't have this problem over here, as we just say what the car is, and when it was built, and it gets registered as just that.

Registering here in IL as a 2003 Special Constructed Vehicle brings the requirement to meet 2003 Emissions requirements. However there's a couple loopholes, Fiberglass kit cars don't require cats, and you can request a show car exemption. Both require navigating lots of red tape and an inspection every 24 months.
This place will supply you with an Alabama title for $125. The lady said "we don't knowingly title kit cars, but download the stuff from the website and send it to us and we'll take car of it" Then you take that title and transfer it to your home state. It must be older than 1985, but no proof is required other than writing it on the application.
