Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent mac company in the south east that can support our small network of 11 macs and server. The company we currently use are dreadful and I am fed up with them. the problem is we know v little about macs cw windows so need good support and sales advice - anyone have any good experience of one?

Thanks,

Whilst I don't want to do Sam out of a job, a little knowledge can go an awful long way with Macs.

- I've recommended the Missing Manual books (particularly for the OS) as a useful reference.
- A sub to a magazine (I like MacWorld for a general use) for new tips & keeping abreast of hardware & software developments
- Some RSS feeds (VersionTracker, MacWorld UK, Apple's News and TipOfTheDay)
- The Knowledge Base and forums at Apple.com
Put someone in charge of the Macs, ideally a user at work and home. Complete an audit of your machines (spec, RAM, software installed). Give them the book, magazines, etc. and ask them to do basic maintenance (virus check, software update, backup) and recommend purchase of updates. I've done this and found a lot of very stupid errors.

You can then call on Sam only for the more complicated stuff and unsolvable problems. Also, when you do call him in, the conversation is slightly more efficient than "Have you tried turning it off and on again"

No worries - not my company.

I'd give what rich says a go first!

That is, if someone has the time...

Until very recently I owned an Apple Authorised Service Provider in the SE. Basically a service company accredited by Apple.

No naming and shaming on here, but if you want to email me via my profile I can tell you who to avoid and why. I can also give you a few pointers.

Can't recommend anyone either though.

ETA: Just seen Mark is an AASP, worth talking to him.
