web infrastructure? Why would the front-end web servers be tasked to bulk carry e-mail...
Now "One of our upstream feeds has been sliced through by a gimp in a JCB. Everyone's shagged... we're on it." Sounds more likley and can be a common problem, as can issues with hardware going pop at just the wrong point in the day.
I suspect the person you talked to doesn't know what's gone wrong and has been tasked with the odious job of stalling for time whilst people find out who did what, where and what they can do about it.

Crispmalt can be pinged but isn't respoding on port 25. Problem with that particular mail server, NOT the internet (unless a router is blocking port 25)

Similar situation... Nothing running on port 25 the second time I tried it but I got a strange response first time... Does that server have a mail scanning app running on it? Pinging mail.edme.com [216.71.73.86] with 32 bytes of data:

Transport is fine on all three servers from here.
The mail server for crispmalting.co.uk is definately working and getting emails. I can 100% gurantee this
However your domains appear to be hosted by diffrent servers and diffrent ISP's. Are you forwarding mail from crispmalting.co.uk to one of the other servers? Are you picking up pop3 mail or are you using an SMTP feed?

Hmm well there is nothing wrong with the POP3 for crispmalting.co.uk either unless someone has deleted the entry from the cluster (unlikely). If you send me an email through my profile I may be able to help further. Certainly for crispmalting.co.uk as my company are a VISP using the same servers which claim to be minx but are actually 186k.
