Easy enough, you'll need the spanner to fit the viscus coupling and two prong tool that fits the 6mm bolts on the fan pully, now undo it ive done quite a few 5minite job.

As said its easy enough-sometimes they can be a little tight though-You can either get a tool that holds the bolt heads or put a long screw driver between the bolt heads of the water pump pulley. Then lever against the srewdriver whilst pushing the other way with the spanner.

Yep...easy enough! Remember thread is 'reverse'. Initial turn may require a knock with a hammer (on the spanner not the coupling!). I have done it on an E34 before and just did it two weeks ago on an E28. Good luck!

All sort chaps (just hope it solves the problem of occasional overheating when in very heavy traffic) old one was pretty black from oil dampness and the new one has more resistance when warm

Off to BTaP now byebye

Almost certainly the cause...if you could stop the fan with your hand on the old one once the car was warmed up it was almost certainly the cause.

if you have any suspect overheating change the thermostat these are known for problem stats.
