When you factory collect a car the insurance that is included (you don't need your own for the first nine days) covers you fully should you wish to take a detour to the 'Ring on the way home! Wish I'd known before I picked my GT3 up last week. Certainly makes the factory collect package look good value - flights, hotel, factory tour and lunch, club class tunnel (all for two bods) plus 'Ring insurance.

German export plates - valid for nine days. Then go to dealer who completes UK reg. process for you.

With that deal, it would be cheaper to buy one of these, spend a week at the ring and sell it on, than it would be to hire a ring car for that long.

hmmmm

I thought these might be the red letters that get turned away, but maybe not?

Nope - they are the black export (funnily enough) plates! Fully acceptable for the 'Ring.

Oh and as I understand it they're completely untraceable if caught on speed camera - not recorded anywhere in UK. I haven't tested this of course

I was thinking something similar, but I think the red plates are the German equivalent of trade plates used by dealers.

However, according to the Ring terms and conditions, a car bearing any temporary registration is prohibited from driving in TF sessions. See paragraph 3 of section 1 below

Surely these export plates would fall into that category?

I can only go by what Porsche told me which was that the car is fully covered for the 'Ring and "many of their customers do this"
