Re-veneer or not to re-veneer ??

How much is it to re-veneer the dashboard ?? Or much much are new ones (like carbon look or s/steel) and where do you get them from ??

I`ve just had mine re veneered by London Caaraige Craft, to do the main dash and the heater control panel cost me about £320, this includes vat and insured postage, they do an outstanding job, real craftsmanship,
i think the aluminiun and stainless steel ones are cheaper, but don`t look antwhere near as nice or classy IMHO.

Was the £320 for a new veneer or for a repair of the original ?

They did my 390, very nice job too. Metal dash looks good on some cars, mine, black with black leather, ally dash,white LED dial illumintaion looks fab. With white LED interior light, well, the nicest car to sit in i have had.

if you have your dash done by london carriage craft you will get atop job had mine done by above and was well please looks as new if not better

Before re veneer make sure you dont have water ingress/damp carpets-over time this tends to cause the delamination of the veneer

I've done a few myself now,its not really difficult.In fact the hardest part is getting the dash off and on/.The reason i started doing them was the cost and quality LCC re did my switch panel 14 months later it completley peeled of

The cost of diy is around £30-£40 in materials

Where did you get the materials from? I'd like to try the DIY route if possible. Do you have any instructions? I think I'd be ok getting the dash on and off, just not sure about cutting the veneer.

Hi Graham, I re-veneered my dash on a wedge a couple of years ago and still looks like new. You can get the details off the wedge pages as I wrote an article on it, really is quite simple just time consuming.

Some veneer,plenty on fleabay
some flexiply froma model shop,get something about 1mm thick
You need some glues i use these two
Gorilla glue for sticking the flexiply to the metal backing
Cascamite / Extramite Adhesive for sticking the veneer down
Neither of these glues are contact adhesives so no panic with air pockets,but you need to wheiht it down when set

To cut out use a carbide tip in a dremmel,piss easy.I stick down the backing and cut this out completely then stick the veneer down.This greatly reduces any air pockets

Then it.s simply a case of fill any holes in the veneer sand,stain and lacquer,I sand by hand as if you use machines it can go very wrong very quickly

Its OK now, just been to view a car but the veneer peeling off the dash was the least of its problems...........anybody know how to repair bodywork/blend in paintwork/retrim roof panels, etc,etc ??

I remade mine out of 5mm plywood that I then 'veneered' with 1mm carbon fibre sheet.
It was cheaper and easier to work with 1mm carbon fibre than 6mm.
