997GT3 - Seats Warning
Discussion
Just a quick heads up to anyone thinking of speccing the £3k buckets. Picked my car up from factory on Wed. complete with said seats. Suprisingly comfy with no aches and pains after 1200 miles in first three days. However, they are a snug fit - and I'm skinny - so chubsters beware! More importantly I'm going to use my car as a daily driver and the only way to get in is by landing on the edge of the side of the seat and sliding down. It'll be interesting to see how the fire retardent cloth stands up to this regular abuse - particularly as I nearly always wear tough old jeans.

I too have specced the buckets....but i bet i'm skinnier than you
I jumped into the GT3 RS that was at the PC Bolton opening and fell into the buckets. The seat belt buckle holder dug right in my kidney
I guess i'll have to learn how to get in them or i'll end in hostipal with kidney failure

That's a good point.
The lwt buckets are superb - if they fit you. Getting in and out is a bit awkward, but once installed the driving position and security are both first class. However, they are not for those of generous proportions and there is, of course, limited adjustment. Great for the track but best to try them first.
Fortunately the standard 'sports' seats are also very good - easier to get in/out, lots of adjustment, good grip (helped by the alcantara) and heat option

As a reference, these are not the so-called "GT3" seats from the 996s. These are narrower, having the same shell as the CGT's.
Flemke, have you posted your 997Gt3 driving impressions anywhere? I assume you will be Mantheying the car....is there much O.M. can do engine wise?...I assume any suspension changes will revert back to a non electronic aided set up.

TBH, I can't recall if I wrote anything about it. I may have made some comments in someone else's thread.
By now there have been numerous published reports of how the car drives, both the empty, irrelevant ones from the Porsche specialist mags (the stuff they tend to write is just awful, isn't it?) and the sometimes-relevant ones from other motoring mags, and some reports here on PH as well.
I'm not sure what Olaf might do to the engine. It's no big deal to me one way or t'other. The car's engine is quite good, but it'll never be great. That's the gist of it.
He's going to put some K&Ws on it so, yes, that should eliminate the electronic version.
I don't know exactly what he's up to; I let him do what he likes and I form an opinion after it's done.
Fair enough!
I recall you mentioned a white seriously tuned 996 Gt3, just wondered if you felt any disappointment going to the everyman 997 Gt3 version after such a honed machine.
I can only imagine the tuners will revert a 997Gt3 back to a 996 version in some respects, it should be interesting on the after market take up from customers.
I agree on the porker comics, I haven't been inspired to buy one for a long time.

I'm more interested in the various aspects of how a car steers, handles, changes gear.

Any decent car will have enough power for almost all road driving situations.
I'm afraid that I cannot recall a seriously tuned white one. Might you mean silver?
Yes, they're tight even on my skinny frame but I'm finding them very comfortable - previous poster is correct re. their CGT origins, they are not same as 996 versions. Not sure that makes me feel better about them costing me £1500 - each!

The 997 GT3 lightweight bucket seats are definitely narrower than 996 GT3/2 ones.
I sat in the 997GT3 on the rotating stand at Geneva and they felt much tighter than the ones I'm very used to that are in my GT2.
Guy
I think de-oxidisation may have caused the carbon to contract?
