Does anyone know where I can get a timing cover gasket on a Sunday in Warwickshire or thereabouts? Doing up the last bolt before swinging my engine in and CRACK, it sheared. It was a new bolt too, must have been faulty. Off it comes again, got the remains of the bolt out, but the gasket doesn't look like it can be used a second time, its gone all limp.

It's going to be difficult dragging my Chim to London without an engine, and I'm up against it already to get the engine fitted and everything sorted for next week, so I really could do with getting the timing cover and sump on and the engine swung in tomorrow.

Edited to add: that's for a 500 Chim, 96 vintage, Serp.

Try a parts factors or clean and dry the gasket and reuse with some gasket sealant like hermatite red.

if you cant get just the gasket why dont you try a motorfactor for the bottom end gasket set use the gasket you need, then just replace gasket into set at later date and return saying you no longer need set,not stealing really just borrowing the gasket i mean there getting the set back complete, justa thought, good luck with ya build.

you could always put the engine in and fit the cover and sump afterwards at least you could be doing that while waiting for the gasket

Panic over, I have used a blue silicone which claimed to be ok for timing covers and water pumps. Fingers crossed it lives up to it's claims!

Engine is now dangling on hoist over the engine bay. Now I can only find 5 of the 6 clutch pressure plate bolts! All nicely cleaned and packed away in a takeaway container, marked up, but mysteriously one short. I guess the hoist is going to be a bit late back to the hire shop
