Fan belt drives water pump ?

My girlfrind is stuck with the griff just north of leicester.

From what she describes sounds like the alternator pulley has cracked and thrown the belt down the road.

Does that belt drive the water pump also ? If not, I guess she can safely drive it until the battery dies ?

Yes it does drive the water pump, and the engine can suffer overheating damage very quickly if you run it without any water circulation.
