Hi Everyone..

Really need some help on this as starting to make me want to get rid of the car.

Have a 996 c4, that in the last 3 months developed a intermittent problem, which again struck, while stuck at the end of the private drive at Woburn Abbey and surrounded by about 20 deer..

When the engine has got warm, the following happens.

1)sometimes, the car while warm, will not start for about 30mins. Then sometimes it does. Very random.

2) or as has happened 3 times now , while slowing down in first, or at idle, the engine will just die. Today the engine man light came on, before it died. The car, again, then would turn over, but just not start, until 30mins later. The AA ,(again) plugged into the computer and no error code.

The car went to Autofarm for its service and again, they looked and could not figure out the problem, and also tried for 2days to repeat the problem. Has anyone come across this, as I am starting to lose patience...

Thanks

Or air flow meter. Change the DME - see if you can reproduce it. If it comes back ask Autofarm if they will lend you an air flow meter and then check again if you can reproduce

So have purchased a DME Relay this morning, and will give it a try tomorrow.. Hopefully at £12, this could be a easy fix to a frustrating problem. Thanks for your help.

Not sure if its the fuel pump , as the car turns over very healthy, when will not start. Plus it only seems to happen at odd times, although, i remember on the mk2 golf bosch system, a similar thing use to happen, when the engine was hot and the cars would not start for 30mins..

Why would it not turn over fine if the fuel pump was down ?it would turn over just fine....but not fire as the pump is not working ..

Could be many things needs connecting to a tester and seeing whats logged ..

possible a crank shaft sensor breaking down when hot the cools and fires up..

I did think about the crank shaft sensor as read about it somewhere else. Autofarm, ran the tester when it was serviced etc and nothing came back on the computer, same for the AA.

Think i will try the relay, if not, suggest to Autofarm to have a look at the sensor, as the problem never happens when the car has cooled down, or complete cold.

Thanks for your help Mike

Buster had a similar problem. Turns out it was a dodgy relay (or something) that prevented the car starting under certain cold / damp conditions. When he waited for the sun to come out it worked fine.

Just a thought..

Ok, have the relay now for the fuel pump. Have found some relays up behind the fuse box, in the top of the foot well. Does anyone have an idea where i can get a diagram layout for this, so i know which one to replace.
