PSI & Temp Readings
Discussion
What is the average Oil temp reading when the weather is so cold at this time of year.
Mine seemed to be the high 50's / low 60's last night when comming back from a 40 mile run - it was about 4 degrees outside temperature wise.
Also I have never been entirely sure about the PSI- obviously the faster you drive the more PSI??
Cheers

From what I can remember there is no thermostat on the oil cooler therefore as the weather gets colder the oil will be cooled more. This effect will also increase with speed. At the weekend I found that oil temp was about 65 at motorway speeds. Warmed up to 80 odd in town as usual.
The oil pressure will be dependent on oil temperature and engine speed, at cold mine is usually about 60psi (ish) at 2k revs. This to about 50 when the engine is warm. Tickover when hot (90C) reduces to about 10psi from 40 ish when cold (10C)
As with all these things it is worth getting to know pressure at temp and revs and notice if it changes rather than values between different cars.

Ditto that, although my hot/idling PSI tends to be around 18/20. Driving when warmed up in cold weather keeps the oil temp around 55/60 but, as mentioned by "Bob", it does go back up to around 80/85 when idling.

I noticed this very thing last night having been away for 3 months and only having the tuscan 2 months before hand, in the manual it states you can only go over 6000 revs once 80 degrees oil temp is achieved, if its cold and you never get there does this mean you cannot go over 6000 rpm no matter how long the drive??
