Changing Gear box oil Now

Guys just dropping the oil out of the gear box and was expecting around two and a half pints but have just measured three and a quater is this normal

Iam letting the old drip out as we speak but should i put two and a half back in ?
A quick responce would be appreciated

I dont want to quote the amount,as i'd be guessing from memory.The correct answer is always fill so that it drains slowly from the level plug hole on the side of the box,this is when the car is level of course.The amount in litres is in the handbook also.

I have put two and a half pints back in as per the bible and is around 1.4L as per the hand book just wondered why around 2L was in the box.

Looking at the state of the old oil i recon it had not been changed for years and at previous services it has just been topped up

No probs mate,my guess from memory would have been 1.4 litres!!
Yes were both going to London,looking forward to it-just don't expect to see my new rear lights just yet
