I get so jacked off with the crappy winter weather that each winter I promise myself a dirt bike to go green laning on.

You can get a nice KTM250 for about £2k which seems pretty good value......so, do many do it on here? Do you find there's plenty of green lanes to go on and, more importantly, is it as fun as I think it would be??

I have a KTM 200 SX (2004) which I have had for about 6 months mine is a full on Moto X bike, if you are intending to do green laning you need to make sure it is a KTM EXC. I found it great fun until I fell off and broke my shoulder and have had 3 months of constant pain from the soft tissue damage........but that is all getting better now!!!

To be honest I do wish that I had bought a road legal bike as I wish that I could go green laning, you should have a look at this site www.trailbikemag.com/forum/ I found that you can go from Titchfield all the way to Winchester off road, I just wish my bike was road legal

Ive toyed with the idea every time winter comes round, I fancy a WR450f what puts me off is selling the R1 to buy one and finding some decent green lanes in my area where your not going to piss off the (horses/ramblers)

Apparently wiltshire has the most green lanes in britain so handy if you live near here.....

I getting quite fired up about this now...

My only real concern is how close the green lanes are to me. Does anyone know a site that lists them? I'm in Weybridge, Surrey and since my Landy was nicked a few weeks ago (:grrr I'll have no way of getting the bike to the area other than riding it.

If you ask the same question on the trailbaike forum they will be able to point you in the right direction, I know that each local council should advertise which lanes are open but the only council I know with this in place on the web is Hampshire County Council

Carrera 2 have a look at this site www.trailzone.co.uk/mainoffroad.html

Its quite informative regarding (BOATS) roads that you can ride on legally plus if you get an OS map they are marked on there W H Smiths sell them for all areas!

I had a CRF250x (road legal) for a while, loved it.

I live next to the ridgeway and in oxfordshire there are plently of places to use them. Just expect to come off often. However this isn't the hardship it seems, aslong as you have good offroad boots and a full set of body armour you should be ok.

In the winter a good set of helmet mounted lights is essential!

You could try contacting your local TRF.

This is how I started green laning. They will show you the legal lanes and if they are as organised as the people in Cornwall, you'll be out every weekend.

I had the impression the TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship) were a bunch of middle aged men than bimbled along slightly muddy roads - until I went out with them. I never knew some of the stuff we go on could even be physically ridden, never mind be legal.

This might help: www.trf.org.uk/trfgroups.php

You probably find other local riders groups near you.

I never knew you could have soooo much fun under 70mph!
