Dumb Mac/Windows Question...
Discussion
I'm just going through the motions of ordering Wondows etc (via work deal) for my Mac, so that i can run some modelling programmes (as per previous dumb question i posted a few days a go); and i have a couple of further questions:
1) Which is the best version of XP to get? Home, or Professional. I just need windows (as the OS platform to run the programmes - nothing else); i don't intend to use the windows part of the computer except for these programmes.
2) I could also buy a new mouse via the same scheme. This would be good, but i don't want a mac mouse as i want the right click facility. Can i buy a microsoft mouse and use that when i'm in Mac OS too..? I am guessing if the mouse is optical with bluetooth, it should work regardless...
Ta muchly!

Not sure about the first - Apple seem to reckon either XP flavour will work, so it's probably down to the applications in question - seems likely they will work with Home, but worth checking.
Re the second, OSX has worked with most "Microsoft" mice for a while - right click your way to heaven - but again read the small print on the box, it ought to specify Mac compatible.

Cheers, i'll have a look at the prices of the two windows versions through the scheme. I don't suppose i'd need to hook into networks etc, because those that i "could" hook into (i.e. at work) have got so many security protocols, i'm sure they wouldn't allow a home use laptop to be plugged in anyway!

Scheme? If the scheme is the 'Home Computing Initiative' me and my mates reckons it sucks, cheaper anmd easier just to buy the PC you want.
The HCI scheme appears to chisel a high selling price in return for the government bailing you out of the chisel but with onerous terms.
If you're not talking HCI, I'll get my coat..

No - this is in Aus, i've been out here nearly 2 years. The scheme for buying the software is a 'microsoft home use' option, provided i work for the company i am working for i can get cheap software of varying types. Uses some weird code given to the company to initiate it. (at least i think that is how it works).
Aus, is far more tax friendly than UK.
Bought a MBP through salary sacrifice. Ended up only pay 40% of the total cost. then i can claim depreciation over the next three years. I will actually be in positive money by the time i have owned it three years!

I do exactly the same thing, use Bootcamp to run Windows for AutoCAD (Windows is not used for anything else, for obvious reasons).
Works fine.
Re: mouse, the new Mac Mighty Mouse (USB and Bluetooth) are programmable and have right-click facility.
They're lovely to use.
Go forth and enjoy
