I've got a Kawasaki Z750, and have bought a ZX6 rear shock

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl

I understand this is a direct swap and was wondering if anyone knew of any decent but cheap mechanics in the Woking area who could do the swap, or if anyone had the facility to lift the back of my bike and fancied giving me a hand for beer tokens.

Thanks,

Phill

Phil,

The swap should be relatively straight forward in terms of how many bolts to undo. You need access to the top and bottom bolts for the damper. Possibly you'll need to undo some of the bolts for the linkage between the swinging arm and the damper, to gain access to the bottom bolt. I remember removing the bolts with the SV's original damper in was a bit of a swine, since I couldn't back the collar off meaning the spring was under compression. Fitting the new damper after was a lot easier.

I have an Abba stand that I use for all my servicing, I'm happy to loan the stand and some time if that helps, but I don't not the adaptors for the Z750 swing arm pivot points since I don't have a Z750. These are ~ £15 from Abba typically. If any are common with the Falco or SV, you may not need to buy anything, but that seems unlikely. My only problem is I'm a bit pressed for time in the short term. If you can wait a bit, then we can probably work something out.

Steve.

Steve, thanks for the offer I'm also pretty busy at the moment but may drop you a line in due course. From what I've read the job is very simple once the weight is off the rear shock its just a case of undoing the bolts at the top and bottom and swapping them over. A 20 minute job by all accounts.

A couple of axle stands under the footpegs should do the trick, or if you've not got any axle stands (like me) then a suitable stack of bricks etc will work;

Doesn't look pretty but solid as a rock........ beer

The shocks just arrived and needless to say, I'm chompping at the bit to get it put on. Any more suggestions?

I've seen bikes sat on bricks, milk crates etc in the past, ho do you actually get them up there?

Thanks,

Phill

I use a paddock stand...... hehe

But a couple of strong mates for assistance would do, or if your garage has rafters try hanging the bike, by the frame, from it with straps or ropes.

Does the bike have a centre stand..obvious I know....otherwise just lay it down on belly against a wall or something if you have no assistance to lift it..

Nope, no centre stand, don't fancy laying it down either in case I damage it. Think I'll have a chat with a few garages

Thanks,

Block under side stand, lean over to rest on rear and sidestand, block under belly of bike. Repeat if need to go higher?
