I hust had my windscreen replaced at Autoglass (Insurers wouldn't let me go anywhere else even after I said I would pay any difference in price).
The final black seal they out around the edge was of very poor finish. It doesn't leak but just looks like a poor job. The trouble is the windscreen is fitted in a very different way to the other Fiestas, Mondeos and Micras they do all the time.
Ask them specifically if they have ever done a TVR before.
I wish I had taken a picture of the original finish and be able to show them the difference.

My windscreen cracked above the steering wheel coming down the screen in a curve for about 4 inches on Sunday on my way to the club meeting.
I was considering changing it anyway as it was getting rather tired and increasingly milky round the edges.
Are we sure the screen is from the Capri or is it S series specific ?

Ok the screen is a Capri and it isn't a Capri!, Capri screen has no black etched band around the outside because it is held in with a rubber seal unlike the S which is usually bodged in with black mastic, the S on the other hand has a black band around the edge to neaten it up a bit, but it has been known for people to buy a (much cheaper) Capri screen and paint a black edge around the outside.I cannot see it being from a Cortina and a Chimaera screen is a lot more curved around the edges than the S, I believe that the side windows are the same though.If you get a screen at a TVR dealer it will have a nice TVR logo on it whereas a trip to Autoglass/Windscreens will just have Pilkington etc marked on it.Mine was done at Autoglass (with a lot of bother) and has a green top tint, it was almost £500

Cheers Steve P once again as I have booked Autoglass today to come and do a new windscreen tomorrow.
Thehad all sorts of TVR's listed going right back through the M series and before and then the modern cars. No 'S' listed at all except as Griffith 'S' upto 1991. Which is the screen I needed, coming with a Green top tint.

PS - Working at Brewery Dist. site has it's advantages as I told the guy if they did a really good job then there'd be a case of beer in it for 'em. Gives them an incentive to do it.....

I hope they know what they are doing as it is extremely easy to cut and ruin the dash and associated covering when replacing the screens. Big discussion on this in the S bible. I asked Autoglass whether they were prepared to replace the interior in my Wedge if they cut the material when I found out the fitters had not even done a TVR before and turned up with a scratched windscreen. The manager declined to do the fitting. I got Tower View to do it and then claimed back.

Autoglass have done the job today and I can say I am very impressed with it.
The guy that came had done them before and in the end I had 3 of them here doing it.
They were very careful around the trim and if was to be critical in any way it would be that the silicone isn't quite as smooth as I'd like it in some places.
Apart from that though they spent 2 1/2hrs doing it.
I can assure you that if I had not been satisfied then I wouldn't have parted with the excess and would now be at the franchise going into one.
On the invoice it is listed as Steve P said as a 'Griffith 'S' Tourer' !!

Nice one! good to hear yours is now sorted.
Mine needs doing, but I've gone for the cheap and cheerfull option of masking up the screen and painting over the problem, I'm not usually in to bodging things, but the S bible does say you can do this. I've only gone this route as I've got more fundimental problems to sort out first. But needless to say I'll be following your steps Johno fairly soon
