Hi

I have just bought another wedge, a 350se in red with cream interior (piped red). Lovely car and much more sorted than the 350i I owned from 1992 to 1997! If anyone can help, I have a few questions...

1) The original wheels are MSW 1956D's (normal size 205/60/15's). One has been damaged though and the car currently runs on standard 350 wheels. Does any body know where I might source one of these wheels? Or even if any other manufacturer used them...

2) Cockpit doesn't leak (Hooray), but boot does (Boo). I have a feeling that the water may be getting in through the holes drilled for the spoiler. Am I on the right track, or should I look elsewhere before removing the spoiler.

3) Bonnet stays have an annoying tendancy to pop off (when lifting the bonnet). Is there an easy cure - or do I need new ones.

4) And finally - fuel sender doesn't work. I think it's the feed from the sender. Is there anything to look out for when i get to the sender?

Thats it for now - any advice greatly appreciated

Bonnet struts are generally held on in one of two ways: either a spring steel clip that grips the ball or a sliver of plastic that needs prising out with a screwdriver to remove the strut.
If the spring or the sliver has gone missing, the strut end will keep popping off the ball. It is sometimes possible to nip a spring up to keep it secure, but if the socket has worn too far then a new strut is proably the only answer.

All you need to do now is find struts of the right length and about 100N rating (so you don't rip the mountings out of the GRP)...

Puff a bit of talcum powder where you think it is leaking - you should see telltale streaks.

Welcome to the '350se' group

These wheels are difficult to source and expensive to refurb - see previous posts.
Mine are polished rather than diamond cut as several wheel co's said the coating would fail due to the 'cut edge'.

I still have a an old spare in the loft but it does need refurb let me know if you are stuck I will check how bad it is.

Prev reply correct for bonnet stays - all I can add is that at one side the vertical bit on my bonnet was pulling (pushing) the stay off when closing - packing the pivot out with 2 washers has corrected this.

Guys

Thanks for the advice - I'll give the idea's a go...

David - I am stuck for a wheel, as long as yours is refurbable (is that a word?). The other 3 would benefit from a refurb anyway... If you are willing to let your spare go, get in touch and we'll sort something out. I am based near Leeds, but don't mind either collecting or using a courier to get the wheel up to me. Also does it have the centre cap as my damaged wheels is missing...

Also thanks for the welcome to the 350se club - mine is number 10. She has a lot of nice touches - silicon hoses everywhere, goodridge fuel hoses, full stainless system (inc manifolds) and uprated brakes. The bad points are the usual cracked dashboard and centre console. I am currently restoring these items and feel that the car will benefit enormously... Chassis is very clean and bodywork is remarkable!

As I say, I've been out of wedges for while - do 350se's attract a premium over say 390's? I bought on condition and took the rarity as a bonus. Presumably, the 400,450's will always be worth more?

Welcome Wedginald

We have No. 9.

Everyone else seems to have covered the other bits (like the talc trick!)

2) Could also be leaking around the rear lights. More mastic should do the trick if this where the water is getting in.

4) My fuel duff gauge problem was traced to the wires the wrong way round on the gauge itself. Worth having a look at and making all connections are secure.

Thanks for this, I'm pretty sure the feed from the tank isn't responding... possible bad earth on tank. I'm going to do the talcum powder trick for the boot!
