Big TV is here but no Sky though - possible lead problem??
Discussion
It looks like you have to wire these new Carlos Fandango televisions up using HDMI leads then - and not with a Scart as I did on my old CRT TV set?
I pulled the cables out of the back of the Sky box and DVD thingy and put them back in fater I had untangled them and then discovered I have no Sky on the new TV downstairs ...
According to the manual I have to now get some DVI/HDMI leads so I am led to believe.
There is a SCART ribbon cable coming out from the DVD player but I don't think this plugs into anything?
Anyone help please?
Is this wording any better for the PH intelligensia to understand
?

You defeintely hav to fix these new teles up with the HDMI lead then - not as I did the old set, as I pulled all the cables etc out of the back and put them in the new one and there's no sky downstairs
So I've got to get some of the DVI /HDMI interfaces or summat? So the book says.
I thought the SCART fed the sky to the tele or maybe Imwas wrong. I seem to be a SCART lead over as well?
Edit:Pleas can a mod place in pie and piston

Is there someone here, who can translate gibberish into English?
I'll have another go then ...

The English makes more sense, but I still can't help.....

HDMI is just a HD version of a SCART connector. A SCART cable can't transmit the picture in HD, but unless your Sky is SKY HD, or your DVD player is an 'upscaling' one, (that boosts the quality of a standard DVD disc up to HD quality), you'll not have HDMI connections on either of them anyway.
You should be able to conect both DVD and Sky to your new Tv with the SCART cables, untangle them and make sure you have one going from the output on the Sky box direct to the TV, and one direct from the output on the DVD player to the TV.
You may need to cycle through the inputs using the remote to view them, there should be a button that selects AV1, AV2 etc.
I just had all of this fun and games with my setup, so I know what you're going through. I managed to work mine out using the instructions from the TV, (which I never normally read!), although the Sony ones were clearer than some I've seen before!!
Good luck!

Your description of the problems is less than helpful so I am going to guess what the problem is but probably answer a few other q's as well.
Firstly although you have a HD TV set you wont get a true HD picture unless you have a HD signal and currently the only way you can get that is through SKY HD (unless you are part of the HD freeview trial in London). To get sky HD you will need a SKY HD decoder (Different to the normal ones) and a set of HDMI leads. You would then plug the aerial into the sky box and the HDMI cable into the HDMI socket on the TV and viola, done. Just then need to find the AV channel on the TV that relates to the HDMI socket (usually says next to it ie AV1 or AV2). You of course also need to be on a channel that is broadcasting a HD signal.
With regards to DVD's and other equipment they will all plug in the Scart socket/s depending on how many you have. The output from the DVD player just goes into any available scart socket. The image may be better than your old TV even though the DVD player is not High Definition (it doesnt need to be an upscalling DVD). The reason for this is that all TV's have a native resoloution eg 1366x768 for most HD sets. It will always display an image this size and just upscale or downscale the input size to suit. Some TV's are better at this than others and some programs/films are better suited to this than others.
With regards to switching between input sources (sky/dvd) there is usually a button on the remote that does this. It either says AV on it or alternatively a small box with an arrow pointing out of it. Some TV's will automatically turn to one of the AV channels when it detects an input signal ie turn your DVD player on and it may change channels to the DVD channel automatically.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. I've worked out from them that I only need to be using the HDMI inputs on the tele if I'm getting HD TV (from SKy etc) which I'm not.
So I don't need those and guess it's just a case of trying to get the SCARTS to work etc.
I have a two SCART leads in the back of the Sky box - one goes to the DVD/video player and the other goes to the TV - they are marked as such on the back of the Sky box. Then I have some ribbon cable tyope SCART leads that was connected into the back of the DVD/video player. I guessed this goes in the other SCART input on the tele but when I put it in there it comes up as AV1 on the teole with a ble screen?
I don't remeber this SCART lead bing in the old tele at alll
I have an aerial lead in the back of the tele so I can get terrestrial tv ok, but just can't get sky - there must be something else I'm not plugging in right to get it all to work ...
I have Sky upstairs but no terrestrial tv
This is becuase I think the dish on the wall has a separate wire that gives the signal for upstairs - but I think the signal for the terrestrial tv upstairs has to go through our tv downstairs if that makes sense
??
