Just browsing www.tvr.co.uk website looking at the 350... This amused me :

". Now in production for five years, the Speed Six is a tried and tested unit and..."

It failed to mention if the unit had passed the tests...

Still the engine goes like the clappers when it's going... touches wood.

If you're following other threads, it has been pointed out that the Speed 6 was doing quite nicely in the Cerbera before a batch of problems in the Tuscans.

Also - does it mention that when testing the Speed 12 they broke the dyno that was supposed to measure up to 1000bhp !

I have been following the other speed 6 threads (I've got to keep busy at work somehow ), I'm not sure I agree the Speed6 in the Cerbera is any different at all. The person I know who had one needed two rebuilds in 2 years - then again he was doing 20,000 a year.

BORING!!!!!!

God! This subject has been done to death. There was problems with early Speed six engines but the same can be said of the AJP V8 too.

it seems to be getting better and the Speed six engined Tuscan T400R just completed the Sebring 12 hours withour a problem. So for goodness sake please find something else to slag off.....

Sorry for boring you... remind me to consult you before posting in future to ensure any throw away comment I care to make is interesting enough.

People will stop talking about the Speed 6 engine when it gains a proven track record for being reliable...

It doesn't stop me from owning one though.

Also I think there will be a good few speed 6 owners with new 'non early' engines who would argue it's not just early cars.!

Sorry, got to jump to BlueTusc's support here.
Speed Six engine issues are important for the TVR community to discuss.

How do you back up your claims that everythings been sorted ?

I've been waiting on an engine repair for bl*ody ages now and its because they've got a huge backlog of work to be done..... this would tend to point to the fact that things are not sorted !

Bandit - two rebuilds in two years !

Sorry, but i was in my local pub (down south) the other day, and one of the guys from factory (dont know his name, but he knows the local lord of manor...hooray bloody henry) was in for lunch.

When I heard he worked for TVR I mentioned I had a tvr for a while, and he asked which one. I said a tucan. Before I could say another word, he asked whether the engine had blown up or even caught fire.

At my amazement, I said yes both... and he simply laughed and then said if only I knew half the story.

About sums it up doesnt it.

I had TVR's for years and used to rave about them until the SP6 engine came out. Quite possibly the worst thing they ever designed...... and badly at that IMHO.

But they also have a huge backlog in servicing work - which is why they are not booking any more service work at the moment - could the two things be related? Manpower and all that? My engine's fine, so there!

Ted, please lock this thread, it's dull and repetitive.

I'm sure the speed 6 issue will hang around for years and years - people who have had a problem will mention it to friends (both TVR and non-TVR owners) and these friends will tell other friends (probably with a little exageration and embellishment) and soon the speed 6 will be the subject of folklore!

I own an early Tuscan (2000) and have had no trouble at all. I expected the engine to go bang along with everybody else, having heard that "50%" have done so already - my first month of ownership was amazing, the next couple of months were excellent although slightly marred by the expectation that the engine would soon be dead (having read all the threads about dud engines).

Slowly I forgot about the issues as the car performed faultlessly and I started to enjoy it properly without the thought that it would soon be going back to Blackpool. I only thought about the engine problem again at Christmas - I was actually hoping the engine would go bang before the end of January because that was when the warranty ran out, and also because I'd put a healthy 9000 miles on the clockk in 10 months and thought it might be a good time to wipe the slate clean - but no joy!

The car is still going strong with its new warranty and the mileage is getting ever higher (13100 now).

My advice is - don't waste your time worrying about the engine - if it goes it goes and you go back to zero mileage. It won't cost you anything (assuming you keep the warranty going, but you'd be a fool not to with the prices TVR charge for parts!), and just think how good that first drive will be once you get it back!

Sorry to ramble!
