'99 TL1000R
And my god, what an AWESOME bike!! Someone has played with the handling as the forks are poking up through the yokes and it turns in really nicely as a result. Front brakes are awesome, better than on my ZX7R despite being the same calipers etc and despite my 7R having Braking Waveys and rebuilt calipers. Rear brake currently is almost purely ornamental as it doesn't seem to do much - just enough to pass the MOT according to the mechanic! It has twin FUEL race cans (road legal with the baffles in) and my god is it loud! When I close the throttle it pops little blue flames out the back - and the baffles are still IN! It also has braided front lines and a GSXR1000 rear end.
Heres some photos from the dealers website:

Excellent, The TL is a stonker with massive power delivery and excellent sound, a mate of mine had one with full Yoshi race pipes, can you say LOUD

Taking the baffles out today. Not sure they'll be out long - it's fookin' loud as it is!
The best part of owning twins is the noise...
...I bet you`ll love the baffles out..but the neigbours won`t be so keen ....
Always liked the TL1000R`s in yellow...there is a guy going about up here that wears a yellow wooly jacket while riding ...he looks like bananaman on steroids....

Did they ever sort the TL1000's handling faults out?
I fancied one years ago until MCN did a piece about folks getting killed due to weird rear suspension.
Might have been the TL1000S. Is the "R" the same?

The problem was the rotary damper. You can run a conventional damper in its place as far as I know.

The S was the scary one - the R has a totally different beam frame and steering damper as standard. It still had a reputation for running wide out of bends but mine seems ok. I haven't had a proper hard thrash yet but my chicken strips are only about an inch wide and it's not tried to kill me yet.
You've really got me thinking about a TL (again).
My lad had an SV650 and we both loved it.
So much more character than my Blade.
The Honda's laid up for winter now, but I fancy a change in April. I was thinking Firestorm / VTR. Something like that but with 130bhp-odd. I haven't looked for ages so you'll probably tell me the VTR already has this. I remember seeing a VTR2, or something, a couple of years back. It only did 25mpg and had a peanut fuel tank, so you had to stop every 20 yards to fill it up.
Am I rambling, or what should I be looking for?

I don't know if that's directed at me but i'm afraid I haven't a clue! I just spotted the TL in a dealers and liked it - I fancied a change, a challenge to learn to ride. I had wanted a '98 R1 but decided apart from the extra power and reduced weight, it would be a similar kettle of fish to my 7R. The TL is totally different so I have to learn all over again.
