How much drive train shunt should I be experiencing? It's an 05 Monaro VXR.

It's very noticeable at slow speeds, and quite, well, shunty.

I used to experience it a lot on my Chimaera (P reg), so am a little shocked to have it quite badly in the Monaro too, I was expecting some, but not this much??

Also, anyone else get problems selecting 1st sometimes? I try and it won't go in, and try again and again, then have to force it quite hard, alwys from stationary at traffic lights.

Cheers
Mike

Can't comment on drivetrain shunt (not a problem I have encountered) and have an 04 CV8 so not a direct comparison but certainly I can understand the gear selection issue - I normally find shoving it into another gear first helps - or slipping into first at the last moment just before coming to a complete stop (I then take it out of gear whilst waiting for the lights to change and it tends to slip straight back in when its time to go) - reverse can be equally problematic at times!!!

I have same prob with reverse (had it on many previous cars aswell) selecting a forward gear, then reverse does the trick (although not sure why)

Lift the clutch and then depress again and it will slot in, if not shift it into 2nd and back to 1st. Happens on lots of cars and forcing it won't help one bit.

I don't find mine shunty at all, infact my friend's RX8 is much worse in this respect, both in terms of slack in the driveline and also the clunkiness of the gearchange (not the action itselft but the resulting bang/clunk/shunt on some gear changes)
1st gear can be a bit funny but it has been on pretty much all cars I've driven.

I've got a noticeable clunk on mine (6.0 VXR) and do find it an annoyance. Jurys still out whether its the same or worse than others have reported but the car is currently having some issues sorted and this is being looked at.

I did hear somewhere of another owner having this same complaint which was diagnosed as a clutch issue and was rectified when the clutch was fixed but cant comment further as I dont have any more info.

I'll post any help after the final verdict.
