Firefox has stopped working , IE is OK

I've been using Firefox for 3 months now, only occasionally using IE when FF wouldn't open a web page. Now tonight using FF it just stopped working, wouldn't refresh/open another page/tab or goback.
IE working ok
Anybody any ideas ? (advice in the most basic terms please, PC idiot here)

Go to the below link and try installing firefox 2.
It might be worth uninstalling firefox 1.x first.
Remember to back up your bookmarks first.

Well I don't know if I've got 2 already as FF did a big update approx 10 days ago, anyway FF is now working again with no changes on PC !!! & I can now get to there FAQ page which might explain what went on (or not as was the case)
