I frequently see adverts in magazines for exhaust wrap and pictures of mummified manifolds along with claims that it vastly reduces underbonnet temperatures. Having read on PH stories of expensive TVR starter motors and other components being 'cooked' owing to the high teperatures under there, I wondered if anyone had any experience of this type of product. Okay, I know it looks ghastly, but are are underbonnet aesthetics really more important than prolonging the life of essential components?

varying opinions on this one.

i went for the "get more air into the bonnet area" strategy and fitted a splitter and s/steel heat shields to manifolds.

probs with wraps...

look crap (not important to many)
retain moisture, rusting manifolds (don't wrap manifolds just Y-piece, the water is sprayed up from front wheels)
move heat further down system ( to cats / undercar sections, causing other probs)

up to you!

probably better to wrap th possible failing components, ie starter motor. (items are available from the same sources)

Oh my favourate subject! When the engine is up to temp and the rad is getting hot indicating not enough cooling going on,half speed fans, then when required, full speed fans. Keeps underbonnet temps down and likewise cabin temps.

...not to mention your starter motor heat shield as an added precaution David!
BTW - your web site seems to be down at the mo.
