Just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. Have just taken delivery of a nice shinny new Ultima chassis a few weeks back so am busy looking through all the post on here and the various builds sites.
Have built lots of kit and race cars over the past 15 years so I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into an Ultima.
Any views out there on 305ci small blocks, I realise it will never set the world on fire but I have managed to get hold of a reasonable lump for £156 of ebay!
It has recieved in the last 5000 miles:
New shells (BE, SE, Mains and Cam)
Flat top pistons 30 thou over bored
HP oil pump
Performer Cam
Performer Manifold
Roller rockers
HEI Dissy
All I need to add is a water pump, carb, alternator and a sump that does not look like a Heinz Baked Beans tin!
Any idea how much grunt this will have?

A quick and dirty run through Desktop Dyno would indicate 241hp @4500 and 301ft/lb @3500.
If you want something closer then I will need more info.
Cam info i.e. a cam makers number or the full spec
Manifold make and type
Carb size
Heads... have they been flowed, valve sizes, chamber volume, if standard then the casting number.
Pistons.. flat top but do they have valve reliefs, how many and how big.
Lifter type..solid or hydraulic.
Rocker ratio.
Even some of this info will improve the guess.

I believe the cam is an Edelbrock Performer Plus, the durations are In 278, Ex 288 or at 0.050 In 204, Ex 214 and the cam lift is In 0.28 an Ex 0.295 (inches I'm guessing)which gives a valve lift of In 0.42 and Ex 0.442 according to the Edelbrock web site.
The manifold is an Edelbrock Performer and I was told that it had an Edelbrock 650cfm performer carb.
I've had the heads off just to check and the pistons have four little cut outs in them to take the valves. The roller rockers are 1.5 to 1 ratio Summit Racing items. The valves are standard I believe for the 305 although the heads have had some work by the looks of it. The valve diameters are 1.94 Inlet and 1.5 Exhaust with a 60cc chamber.
Truth told I bought the engine for all the parts that I could use - HEI dizzy, rockers etc but if I can get it up to say 320 or 330 bhp I might run it for a bit and see how it get's on.

When you get your other bits you need....
A short nose water pump to clear the bulkhead.
A winged and baffled shallow sump. can't remember how shallow but it only just clears the lower chassis rail so is important. Someone else will be along with the correct dimension.

So if I fit an electric water pump and reduce gear the alternator 320 might be on the cards?
Anything I can do to improve that figure?
At the end of the day that's not bad for £156 plus a carb and other bit's! Last engine I fitted cost me £2.5k, was a V6 and pushed out 180bhp and about the same in torque.
Better get on with riveting the internal panels then else it will be sat in the garage for the next decade.

Paul Buck (Shithotfast) took me round Hulavington (airfeild) in his ZZ4 powered Spyder and I must say, I was well impressed for 300 ish HP. Good thing is that if you are not satisfied with this amount of power, the only way is up and it is relatively easy.
One thing to consider may be the SVA implications for this motor. It is worth checking that you can prove the age of the motor (as you probably already know, pre '74 means a visual smoke inspection only but anything later will have the meter affixed and that is a fair bit more stringent).
