After a brief look at this when it came out, only to discover that anything I wanted to look at was just green mush, I thought I'd have another look.

I was ready for a few Google Stunts and duly found this splendid suite of stuff...

# Google Earth
# Picasa - Photo organizer
# Google Pack Screensaver
# Google Desktop
# Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
# Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar
# Norton AntiVirus 2005 Special Edition
# Ad-Aware SE Personal
# Adobe Reader 7
# More Optional Software: google talk, google video player, real player, skype etc.

I just want Google Earth. All the other stuff I either have or don't want. But if you uncheck all the boxes, it says you have to choose one...

Bloody Google, why do they have to spoil it with crap? Can I get Google Earth on its own?

Why are you unchecking all the boxes then if you want google earth? Leave the one that says Google Earth checked?

edit: top tip, 9 times out of 10, don't click those 'sponsored links' in google searches

If you just want the images then use the web version - www.flashearth.com has all the Google Earth photos plus if the area you are looking at isn't very detailed you can change it to the Microsoft Virtual Earth image to see if it's any better.

As for 'obvious', well, I did the obvious thing and googled for Google Earth!

The good news - I can get from Napier beach to back home in under a minute (instead of 28 hours). Just amused myself revisiting all the places I visited in NZ back in January

But when I get home, it's still green mush... ah well!

Much depends on the quality of the imagery that Google have. If there are no high definition pictures of where you live, then green mush is it...

They recently updated the area I live and it went from green mush to being able to see my neighbours dog in my orchard. Spooky stuff!
