just had my injectors back from Lucas for cleaning ect, and have been told that they all need replacing, only one or two that were slightly okay, but best to replace the lot, so where is the best place to buy these from, lucas can`t get me a price until monday, so I`m chewing my nails at the latest expense, but its got to be done!

Take the opportunity to replace with the bigger Bosch injectors - anyone I know who has raves on about how much better the engine idles and runs due to the improved spray pattern giving a better burn. First sign of mine misbehaving I will be going that route too.

Ricardo

PS Did you get the Haynes manual and photocopies yet? Email me when you do and/or have any queries.

If you change the injector spec you need to replace the fuel map too. The Bosch injectors are not cheap, and the remap can add considerably to the cost. However, you will probably find that people who do engine tuning for a living and supply people with these spangly new injectors may be able to supply second hand original spec injectors. It'd be worth talking to people like Mark Adams, Austec etc to see what's available.

If replacing with the larger Bosch items a remap would obviously be needed right? Then it starts to get a bit pricey!

thanks guys, have`nt received them yet ricardo, but we generally get things a bit later in the post over here!
are the bigger bosche injectors the ones highlighted on here on e-bay, anyone used these yet, can they be put in without any other work, mapping ect.

have just had a very long chat with chris at RPI engineering, top bloke, and will check my exhaust valves first to make sure that they have not seated themselves to far into the head, which he informs me is a common problem for the tiv, he doesn`t think the injectors should be a problem at all normally, but I`ll have to investagate a bit more before I decide what needs doing.possibly send them up to chris to have them properly checked if the valves are okay, but those ones on e-bay do look cheap!!

These are the guys who sell them(bosch type) for around £200 a set of 8.I know of a couple of people who have bought from them and been very happy with the delivery and service etc.If you dont need the larger size, then i would advise against it,unless you plan to do a lot of modifying.By ordering the same size, but the bosch type, you will get a better spray pattern, and keep the smoothness at low rpm,an injector thats bigger than it needs to be will sacrifice smoothness. You can buy the bosch type as a direct replacement size for your old Lucas ones,no need for a re-map then.

so are these ones the standard bosche injectors, as I can`t afford to go bigger and have remaps ect.

You're welcome to my old set for some beer money (if they're any good), you know

Failing thatt, Racetronix have some nice injectors for sale - the dollar exchange rate is quite good at the moment... The down side is remap (or for preference an after market ECU!! )

GreenV8S may be right regarding the extra expense of remapping if you don't already have a Tornado chip set-up - speak to Mark Adams.

As far as I know the Lucas ones are 'pintle-type' and the Bosch ones are 'disc type' so if you do intend doing upgrades you may need the disc type as the pintle type don't operate at higher fuel pressures IMO.

hi recardo, received package today , thanksthumbup

I`ve had some interesting developments with the griff, to breifly explain, I thought it best to have the injectors cleaned, even though the car felt like it was running fine, because on removing the exhaust manifolds to have them camcoated, I found that the exhaust ports were different colours, ie, some black and some greyish.
on speaking to Chris at RPi, he didn`t think that the injectors would be causing a problem, the car only having 47000 miles, and advised to check the seating of the exhaust valves by removing the rockers and placing a straight edge over the tops of the valves, to see that they are all seated the same, which they are.
however, the faces on three of the rockers are badly chipped and damaged, so I assume that the valves may not have been opening as far as they should.
Ive taken some photos and sent them up to Chris, and see what he recomends on monday, I think that I may need to replace the cam, rockers ect, probably cheaper overall to buy as a kit, and do the lot for piece of mind.
still unsure about the injectors thing though,if I do splash out, are you saying that the bosch ones on ebay will not be compatable?

No they are compatible okay and can be adjusted to a higher fuel pressure if engine upgrades are planned - the standard Lucas ones can't take pressures above 3 bar I think. The photocopies I sent you will explain.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

They were very friendly on the phone and delivery was pretty quick.

About £200.

cheers rev, I`m going to put the old ones back in for now and see what happens, as I found problems elsewhere ( see broken rockers thread ), but very useful to know where these things can be sourced cheaply.

Ideally - if you remove them and take them to someone with a injector cleaning rig - they can see if they are working or not.

If they say some are not working properly and cannot be fixed - then don't waste your time putting them back in.

If as you say - you found broken rocker arms (1) or more - and have not removed the injectors - but they were just a suspect .. then it's a fair guess that the injector was not guilty and the rocker was stopping the air / fuel in to the cylinder.

As soon as you change the injector - the the fueling will need to be checked - even if the company supplying says they are a replacement for the original. Re-mapping is only needed once you fine you have a problem.

Too much fuel can cause bore wash and too little detonation.

It's a fine line.

Re- the tappets - as you are looking at a 285 Piper with hydraulic lifters - then I think you would be guilding the lily too much by trying to ensure even lift across all with adj. push rods.

I have solid lifters on my car and they need adjustment around every 4000 miles on average. It's about a 2 hour job. So I would think as with all thinks with an adjuster - that you cannot assume it will stay set forever ..

So - you would need to add this cost to the price of every service and one in between. Also bear in mind many garages are not used to doing tappets on RV8's so might just turn you away...

clive..... i got some diff injectors from rob robertson which are a fraction of the price (circa £200) of the BOSH ones (circa £500). He has done a lot of testing with them and a well known V8 tuner uses them as well ( so I am informed)
