Rebuild time but to what spec?

Hey guys, My engine is being remove this week due to a sheared head stud and I've been recommended to get a rebuild while the engine is out.
Now the car is a 4.2 but I love the thought of upping the displacement. I know that Power do the .2 to .5 upgrade but I think I should go for more! Well I want more anyway!
Who should I be talking too? Who can I ship the engine to that will do the business for me?

I think with the scarcity of AJP parts these days, TVR Power would be your best bet, although the conversion isn't cheap. You'd be paying the best part of 6k for a potential power increase of 40hp or so, after mods. Have you considered blueprinting your 4.2 for increased performance and reliability?
Basic rebuild costs? Depends what is worn ! Heads are expensive as are cranks. If it is just basic stuff like valve guides then you could be looking at 2.5K ? Top dollar = £6K if loads of stuff needs replacing. Or you could pay for a 'white rose' 5ltr. Or you could go to Craft and pay £10K.
Speak to Paul at Austec. I had a top end rebuild this year and decided to go for a power upgrade at the same time, not sure what he did, even though he did tell me
Ported and rings, plus some other stuff, I think. I also had it remapped. BHP was 326 before, took it to SRR after and got 411.9

Thanks Julian, i thought it may sell a little easier with the spare engine, do you think it's about the right sort of money ?
Wow - that looks too cheap !! Especially with the spare engine.
Assuming your cerb is in great nick and that the engine is great then I would have thought you could charge a premium as is for such a one off ? OK not a huge premium. So maybe £16.5K is a realistic price as is? But I would deffo sell the engine separately. If it is a good engine then you could get quite a few quid for it

That's a difficult question I don't feel even half way qualified to answer. Its definately a buyers market with Cerbs at the moment if you look in the classifieds, and there are some crackers like yours out there for sale. Just like Satman etc I would say your car is worth more than you will get for it at the moment.
but as far as the spare engine goes I would sell seperately or on ebay. The engine is only going to be sort after by a certain type of owner. Normal Cerb buyers may not even have space for an engine lying around.

It's priced to sell, the spare engine is in perfect running order also.

Anyway, its coming down to crunch time and decisions have to be made. Two companies stand out at the moment, Austec and Autocraft. Have spoke to both and am torn between the two so all advice is helpful.
Austec are going down the 4.5 route with all there custom internals and head work.
Autocraft are offering a 5 litre job with all the trimmings too.
There aint much in the price to swing it so...
Advice needed please cos the engine is being shipped out by the end of the week!

am suprised that you can get the work at craft for the same money as austec.
For me I would be weighing up the cv s of both outfits to make the call.
Although it is probably a lot of money - why dont you buy tootallpauls. Take his engine, put it in yours, put his spare engine back in his, sell it for a couple of grand less and bobs your aunty.
