Just got back at 5pm. Jams waiting to reach the Ace Cafe. By the time we parked up, people were being told to return to their cars. Piccadiily was a nightmare. We gave up half way up Piccadilly and came home, so never went round Westminster. Weather was awful
Would we have missed it - NO.
Great cameraderie, 800 plus TVRs all around; all models; waving, smiling at each other as well as some of the general public. Even a bus driver that was blocked for 45 mins seemed in good humour.

That don't look good cirks. I saw your car at the meet up at South Mimms and thought how good it looked (as usual). Was that on the run around London or on route?

I was in the passanger seat with Wicker Man in his Chim. We made it to the railway bridges just before the Ace cafe turn off before his car died with a duffed alteranator. After a 2 hour wait for the RAC we finally got it to the Ace sometime after 3pm to await the dreaded recovery lorry to get us home.

Not quite the day we both had in mind, but wouldn't have missed it. Hope the damage is not too great on your car cirks.

Sorry to see this had a similar problem with my Lotus.

Wash it quick the powder is very corrosive, cover the intakes and use a power washer its the only way to get the powder out. Then apply liberal amounts of WD40 down the intakes and everywhere.

Cirk's, was that you in Whitehall?

If it was you, I was on the opposite side of the road, and saw the flames starting to come out of your air scoop. You reacted so quickly, hopefully you stopped a far worst incident.

It was also great to see all the other TVR owners around you jump out to help, irrespective of how much horn tooting came due to their abandoned cars in the middle of Whitehall.

Anyway, really sorry your day ended like that. Have you any ideas on how much it will cost to repair it?

I was parked next to you at the Ace - what a shame to see the damage - what was it - spit back through the intake trumpets?

Hope you get it fixed soon - there aren't enough wedges out there anymore

Still - I guess your insurance will cover the costs - third party FIRE and theft!!

CIRKS We were the white wedge following you from the ACE but lost you in traffic around Picadilly sorry to see the damage but glad to see you managed to prevent anything worse developing - Hope its easier fix than at first it may appear - just remember Dry Powder can eat aluminium so get it cleaned off ASAP

Cirks saw your car at the ACE looked great as usual, sorry to hear about the fire and hope not too pricey to fix.

I got round Picadilly Circus after 2.5 hours and decided enough was enough and headed for home back out the A4 straight into another jam. Saw a Cerb in my mirrors breakdown but in 4 lanes of solid traffic couldn't pull over anywhere to offer moral support.

Picadilly was great fun when everyone revved and the crowds were really enjoying the spectacle but my car was on the hot mark all the while with the fan on

Saw DP400, Blaine, Gandalf and Hormone to say hi, saw Wedgie400 car and a few other wedges.

Unbelievable event for TVR support but 5 hours in the car with 4.5 of them in the worst traffic jams, not the most memorable TVR driving, I was shagged when I got home and not courtesy of the Mrs either.

Cirks - Sorry about your car - hope u fix it soon. SteveR - never saw you all day, we thought you were not there - Myself and DP400 must of been midpack - must of spent 30 mins or so in Picadilly - the noise from behind was amazing - we just got into Whitehall before the gridlock - WE must of impressed the tourists as they we taking more photos of us than the landmarks !!!
Weather just kept up enough to keep the roof down - to take in "THE NOISE" and also the fumes.

thanks for all the nice comments. I'll try to get the car washed down perhaps tonight. I hadn't realised how nasty dry powder is.

No idea on costs yet. I'll have to give John Eales a call and see what he'd charge for rebuilding the carbs and setting it all up again. I'm hoping the rest of the engine got away without too much damage. The bonnet has warped very slightly but there doesn't (on first glance) appear to be any actual burn damage etc.

I'm just so glad that I carry a extinguisher on the inside of the car

It might be an idea to ask John if he can use small chokes in the carbs - this would give a few less ponies but the trade off is better small throttle running .. stopping the spitback - you may find you have standoff at slow speeds (where the fuel actually
goes the wrong way).

Like you - I always carry a fire extinguisher.
