I know this might be a bonkers idea, but has anyone thought about us [TVR owners / workers / enthusiasts / etc] clubbing together and approaching Smolenski to see if he'll sell?

If just those of us at London Thunder today all put in the pot what we probably spend on a service plus a bit [say £1500] then we've made nearly £750,000 without trying. Get in a bit of Venture Capital or something, and who knows where we could go!!

I've not a clue what he paid for it or what he'd be willing to take for it - if prepared to sell at all.

We'd all just become shareholders and allow management the job of running [with tweeking if due diligence determined a need] the British factory.

Over to you....

Sadly as he has already paid £15M for the company and a reputed £10M keeping it going you would need to offer around £30M to make it worth his while. Its a good sentiment that has occured to many but it would be a big stretch and that's assuming he wants to sell.

Well, not exactly. The money he's put in is sunk money. Gone. I suspect that TVR at this moment has probably few confirmed orders but has a business plan (involving outsourcing engine and chassis production etc; new models etc)that requires a shedload more cash to realize. The assets of TVR are probably production equipment and intellectual property (know-how, trademarks etc). Valuing the business as a going concern looks difficult - adding up the money put in does not equate to business value. Look at Phoenix's purchase of Rover Cars from BMW for 10 quid. So let's have a quick whip round for Mr Smolensky before someone who knows anything about corporate finance comes along to spoil the fantasy!!
