Thinking about, well i am doing Motorcycle instructor course.
Discussion
Anyone here done it in the past or are presently an instructor?I really want to succeed at this and had a real urge to do it even when i was doing the CBT myself,it just appealed to me for some strange reason?I've just started a course, anyone any tips or are there any good sites around full of any good info from the instructor side of things rather than the pupils?
I was under the impression mistakenly that it was the whole caboodle was included in this course,it didn't say otherwise in the ad in the local paper, but it turns out this is just a CBT course.I will be going on to do the Direct access course as well, although CBT seems to be the thing most instructors(even the DAS ones)want to do seemingly, they get more of a kick out of teaching absolute beginners than teaching people who can ride to start with.I'll see how it goes though.
Teaching CBT can be fantastic, and it is great seeing people who have never ridden a bike before getting to grips with it and having a great time.
You do get some right crackers, though; for example people who have never even ridden a bicycle but think they won't have any problem balancing on a motorcycle. Extra slow control exercises for them
You'll also meet people who have absolutely no idea what any road signs mean, but get upset when you refuse to set them loose on the road!
Meant to ask, are you paying to do this course? If so, are they training you to send you to Cardington?

My bike instructor told me a story about his instructor test - he used the phrase "kick it over" to instruct the assessor to start the engine - the assessor duly booted the bike over.
Don't know what happened after that but the point my instructor was making was that even as one seasoned biker talking to another, one had to be very disciplined.
Best of luck
Thats one thing i've been mulling over, how to describe different instructions,as you've just explained, use the wrong term and you don't know what you'll get!One part i think will be strange(but obviously necessary) is right at the end of the training. The last stage is following one of the instructors in a transit van,the instructor is in front on a bike, you have to talk him on the walkie-talkie through everything and seemingly he will do a lot of deliberate mistakes,it will take a while to get into that i think, not drying up and running out of things to say!Should be fun though.

Couple of years ago I was talking to my old instructor and his CBT instructor. Earnings didn't seem that good.
Seemed about £20k for DAS instructor, and it is a vile job in the winter, great in summer. Although Bike Instruction did put him off riding for fun, busmans Holiday and all that.
Both agreed very very rewarding taking somebody from never sat on bike to passing DAS first time.
