Filled up yesterday and put 56.2 litres into my Chimaera 500 - I hadn't realied the car was so low on fuel as I'd only done 170-odd miles and I usually fill up round about 180-odd and put 40-odd litres in.

On returning home I looked up the fuel tank capacity in the owners manual and it says 57 litres.

So the question is, did I really only have 0.8L left in the tank or was the petrol pump at the filling station under-reading?

I thought most cars couldn't use the last few litres in the tank?

56 litres!
I've never got more than 48 in mine after about 25 miles with the warning light full on reading empty for about 20 of those. I would think you either have a very optimistic gauge or you managed to get about 10 litres in the boot! (or the pump didn't reset?).

What warning light? Did they drop this on later Chims?

I regularly put between 52 - 55 litres in mine... never fill up before about 190 - 195 miles (4l)

No warning light on my 95 4.0 HC, only a hiccuppy shaky bouncy stuttery system that stalls the engine. Reset by filling the tank!

The fuel gauges are very much like all the other gauges on the TVr are reasonably calibrated. But always keep 1/4 tank in to be on the safe side.

I ran out of pertol two miles from the service station at Boulogne after filling up in lemans town centre two years ago - and the car was sputtering like a good un. Good job had a can in the boot.

I generally fill up around 180 miles (often sooner) so that's why I pulled into a Filling Station at 174 miles. As I said, I was a bit surprised that I got so much in. Having said that, 14.1mpg is by no means my worst tank average but it was still a bit of a shock to realise how close to running out I had been.

That's no better than a standard 500, is it any faster then?

Its about the same power, and about 10ft/lbs less then a GOOD 500, but alot free-er revving, and a more 'balanced' engine so I am told... with an Evil, NASCAR meets Cherrybomb Exhause note, that will scowl old peoples faces from 1000yds

Just saved me having to chop the engine in for a new one for some more power... and saved having to chop the car in for a new on too soon.

Sounds good - noise must sound even better. If I did not have a mental hang up about paying the tax man all that money I would probably do something similar.
