Windscreen Wiper Arms

I'm currently running with one wiper at the moment, though luckily the passengers side.

Referring to the bible, Steve doth say that there are 2 types - plastic and metal. Mine is definitely the metal type.

Problem seems to be that the internal grooving on the wiper arm (that locks on to the drive pin) has worn away hence no grip and a fairly unreliable action. It also migrated round to the bonnet bodywork so I removed it to prevent any damage.

Having removed the passenger wiper I can see the drive shaft underneath operating correctly with wipers on so the gears/drive are fine.

Does anyone know what type/model/donor car I need to ask for when getting a new one and are they easily sourced? Also are the plastic/metal types interchangable (I assume the plastic ones have a metal insert where the get drive off the shaft?)

I then started thinking, there is a fair amount of pressure applied to keep the blades pressed to the screen. Does this contribute to wearing of the drive shaft gears/arm grooves linkages?

Don't bother, just replace with new Leven arms and blades, about the same price as the originals, but they work, look a shedload better and put the water on the screen.

Nice to see you both yesterday Maggit,i totaly agree the Leven kit is well worth the money see you both at the Growl if not before.

Yes I might look in to that. Not obviously visible on their web site though, still they are always helpful on the phone.

I'd second that. The MOT man was dead impressed when I took it in earlier today, c/w Leven arms/jets. Last year the washer tubes were on their last legs, and I got one of those "don't bring it back like that next year or else" looks..
