or you could just use the AT scheduler:

from a command prompt (type cmd in the Run box from the start menu)

AT 22:00 shutdown -r -f

for other options, and the syntax type

AT/?
or
SHUTDOWN/?

at the command prompt

You can use AT to run any command you want... but it forgets everything if you power cycle... very anoying... (except for the shutdown command!)

If it's Windows 2000/XP, don't use the AT command, just use Scheduled tasks and set it to run to your own timetable.

Don't use the -r switch with the Shutdown command though as it reboots the PC.

Shutdown -f -s should do it.

Brilliat guys. I went to run and typed cmd then put this.

AT 22:00 shutdown -s -f

PC turned off.

2 questions
is that a one time only thing or will it shut down at 22:00 every day now?

if thats it now what do I type in to cancel it out again.

Thanks

AT /delete will cancel all AT jobs or you can specify which on to cancel if you have more than one.

just check AT/? for the options

it is a one time thing if you typed what i said before, you can set it up to do the same thing say every thursday, or every 10th day of the month etc. again just check AT/? for the syntax

No, it will have lost the settings.

To get it to run everyday, use the Scheduled Tasks option in 2000/XP.

Start -> Program ->Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks

Add a new job to run the shutdown -f -s and configure the time and frequency you want it to run
