I read somewhere a while back about a guy who was the second person in France to register a Westfield XTR2. I am looking at building or buying, depending upon complications with French regulations, an Ultima. Does anyone know whether it is possible to register this type of car there as it seems that it is not possible according to the response I had in the Ultima forum.
Cheers guys

I think you will really struggle to register a kitcar in France, you might have a better chance of registering it in the Uk then exporting it? But I know the French sre famous for their dreadful beaurocracy, & I was led to believe that it was impossible to register a kitcar there, you're saying it's been done (twice)so presumably must be possible, can you find out more from the people who've registered XTR2's? It shouldn't make any difference what the make is, if you can get an xtr2 reg'd then would have thought the same must apply to the Ultima.

A friend lives in Southern France and has been trying to register his used Fisher Fury there for TWO YEARS! Apparently, befriending the local Mayor helps! (?) Car has been there all the time but he is on sticky ground with insurance ect. I will e-mail him and try to find out some more info for you.

I think there is a way to do it if it is a car you own registered in Britain that is then imported in France. You'll have to get it tested (passée aux Mines) and you might have to prove it is produced in certain numbers over here.

Et au fait, bienvenue, je ne vois pas souvent de compatriotes sur ce forum! thumbup

I know of someone who was having to sell his car as he couldn't register it, he had all documents except the 'constuctors certificate' I think he'd retired to France hoping to enjoy better weather.
He wasn't happy about it going though.
If he's still got it it's a Haldane 100 for anyone that might be interested

Hi,

You should be able to find the french XTR2 owner and also information on kit car registration in France on this forum :

www.forum-autoroule.com/

Go in the "Lotus, Caterham et dérivés" section.

It's possible!

I had a Merlin and a Sebring in France for over 3 years and just kept them registered in the UK ,I`d MOT`d them whenever I came back and had them on an unlimited insurance green card .
