Done the rounds a good few times on here, but always a good reminder of how you
should never under estimate the ring !!!!!

Couldn't agree more.... a trip to the ring in May confirmed this!!! Returned in one piece however and am already planning next years trip - a fantastic place and some great people to give you some pointers.
Nice collection of cars BTW.
Still get a shudder when I see it. The line you cross when you overstep your boundaries is so final, isn't it? From "Ooooohhh...he's a quick one...", to watching the beginnings of a spectacular drift on a tricky and fast double-apex right and thinking "Ooooh...he's good as well..." - and suddenly "Sh*t. He wasn't quick or good - he was just an eejit and now his car's a wreck."
Be careful out there. The joys of getting something right somewhat pale into insignificance versus the sorrows of getting it totally wrong.

cant gain access to the clip at work but i know the one.
there is a brilliant second video showing the car being recovered and lifted back onto its wheels.
In a moment of pure comic genius you hear one of the videoing group saying "wonder how much he would want for the rear wing....."

This clip is the one that always gets me

Just shows what happens if you put your wheels on the grass, even in a place where you wouldn't normally expect to fall off. Scary stuff !

Shocking - especially the way the windscreen seems to explode!

I managed to do a similar thing at the same corner n July, thankfully I came to rest just as he exited stage left!

Frankly if I had a GT3 there is no way I would take it round the ring and seeing that just confirms my view. All the same what do we think went wrong? Overcorrect, lift-off? How would the aces take that corner?
I was one of the guys filming...
The GT3 driver was a newbie and we saw him going faster and faster as the day progressed. At one point he simply run out of tallent...
There is no right way to take that corner...
I usually dab the brakes before the jump, possibly take off, and then brake harder after the dip to steady the car and then it is flat out in 4th. Others (braver/better/more talented/lighter cars) don't brake after the dip. I did not brake in my E30 320iS (M3 engine) after the dip, still flat out in 4th, but that got stollen so I do the Ring in a porker...

that corner isn't even close to 4th gear in a GT3.. 4th gear at 8000rpm in a GT3 is about 150mph!!
Who says that I drive a GT3? And when I say flat out in 4th it means that I am in 4th, brake to settle the front of the car, then mash the pedal to the floor and and keep it floored until I get to the right hander before Schwalbenschwanz...
I drive a V8 5000cm3 Porker - a 928GT, which although highly modified is a far cry from the screamer 6-pot found in a GT3
... On a good day I am shifting into 5th as I am rounding Pf3 which at 6000rpm is about 125mph... Don't have the time to really look at the clocks...Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
