Hi,
I replaced mine a couple of months ago, I am lucky enough to have access to hydraulic ramps which made things a bit easier however it was still a bit of a pig - if you want I can let you know the exact procedure I followed but the one piece of advice I would give is go to your local ford dealer and order a new set of Torx bolts for re attaching the driveshafts to the diff.
Good Luck

I've just got the diff out of mine. Its fairly straightforward in that you can see all the bolts that need undoing. The biggest problem was access to one of the four bolts that hold the diff to the hefty mounting carrier, getting a socket on is impossible because the chassis is in the way. This bolt is in a recess so a ring spanner won't go on either. In the end I unbolted the carrier from the chassis to allow the troublesome bolt to drop beneath the chassis. Holding the whole lot steady whilst undoing said bolt was another challenge. (you can't get the carrier and diff out in one go 'cos it wont fit through the gap in the chassis)
Having got all the bits out I discovered the rear mounting for the diff (the one held onto the chassis by four bolts just in front of the petrol tank) is knackered. Ford no longer source this bit, which is from a Sierra (part no. F1640414) although I can get it from the Continent for £65!! Seems a bit steep for a chunk of metal and rubber. Anyone know of a cheaper source for a new one? (Don't fancy fitting a secondhand one)

i bought one of these a couple of years ago apparently it was a gearbox mount off a granada may be worth checking
if i can find the paperwork i will get the part number for you
Alan,
I advertised in the classifieds and bought a used diff for £50 from a PHer who had converted his S to a cosworth power unit and subsequently fitted an LSD - well worth it in my opinion as it meant I had the whole thing apart and back together again in 1/2 a day which included changing the driveshaft CV joints. The diff I beleive is from the V6 Sierra and when I phoned around the Ford breakers I did find a couple but they wanted around £80 for one and could not garauntee that it was OK and would not offer a refund in the event it was not OK. I did get quite a few replies from my PH advert though and felt more comfortable buying from a fellow piston Header.
