so thanks to vipers, I go down to the bike shop to get a new lid where they show me that none of the lids have the requisit stickers as per page xyz of the blue book. girly in the shop says she cant get em with the stickers though they are to ec2205.
blue book has no mention of ec2205!!??

she says the only place we can get helmets with the requisit bs sticker or snell sticker ( she says is a U.S. spec) is fromm Tweaks or gp race ware.

I live no where near eith emporium and you cant realy try on 10 or so helmets via mail order, it gets expensive with the postage etc.

sadly you were misinformed. there are loads of places who will sell you a helemt to the requried standard. Demopn Tweeks and GPR are just the most popular.

you best bet is to wait until the autosport show in January and try a few on there.

have a look here and phone a few people up though, you might get a few quid off and support the smaller people!

I bought an Impact Racing helmet at the begining of the year, buy a SNELL 2006 one & it will last you a few years, the MSA are slowly phasing out the BS approved one.

I am really happy with the Impact Racing one, very comfy, fairly light & reasonably priced.

Buying the correct MSA approved helmet from a general bike place seems to be getting harder. The stickers the MSA want are not prevalent on bike helmets. I was lucky to bag an end of line one after a trip to about 3 shops.

You should get a good deal at autosport show.

Yep, I have an Impact Racing helmet and I'm very pleased with it. Very comfortable indeed.

You can buy an MSA approved helmet for £100 from Tweeks, but they don't fit properly as they appear not to be designed for human heads, so you need to spend a little over £200 for a good quality lid that'll last a few years.

I had a similar shock to the OP when I bought mine earlier this year for the 24-hour kart race at Whilton Mill. The guy in the local bike shop said that I could use any one of their helmets to do 200mph on a bike, but only one or two were legal for MSA motorsport. Cue a little cursing and a Saturday morning trip to Tweeks.

It does seem a little rough all this.
like most people I have a particular shaped head, ie some of us get on with arai's some agv etc. I have a shark head!!! so I buy shark helmets. fit like a glove comfortable as fcuk. + I can get 1 for £109 at the moment from my local shop.
incidently I emailed the msa 4 days ago and still no reply.
lets watch this one shall we and see how long beforwe we get a reply!!!!

Demon Thieves seem to have increased the prices of some helmets by up to £50 (Arai for one) in the 2007 catalogue compared with GPR so shop around first.

Helmets bearing one of the undermentioned 'standards' may be approved by the MSA subject to other criteria being met.
(a) international events all MSA events
FIA 8860-2004
Snell SA2005
Snell SA2000
SFI Foundation 31.1A, 31.2A
BS 6658-85 Type A/FR

In addition the following are acceptable for:
(b) All MSA events
BS 6658 - 85 Type A (Type B is not acceptable)

This was taken from the 2006 edition with no signs of any of them being discontinued for next year (usually says next to the standard)

So for those that want to buy a type A, fill your boots - they're legal for MSA events.

Apparently, the Snell rating for Nomex lined helmets are illegal on the road as the ACU rating most bike shop supplied helmets carry does not require a fire proof lining. Despite them being a much higher standard than most bike helmets - daft eh?

I've bought a couple of helmets from DT, one at a show and the other by post - both have been great and DT's service first rate.

Indeed, and yes GPR are at Silverstone. Just had a look at your profile and since it appears you're racing cars I dont think a bike helmet is what you want anyway. They are designed to take a different type of impact (more glancing blow) to a car helmet (short distance high impact on cage).

don't want to call them because I hate calling large agencies such as msa etc you get passed around plus it costs for the call and an email is free and they should jolly well just answer an email.....
hmmm is a week long enough to wait before i start to creat a stink
