virtual memory low warnings
Discussion
Sounds like you are short of RAM - how much do you have installed ? So Windoze is using the hard drive as virtual RAM - but sounds like your Hard Disk is nearly full too ? Try cleaning off some clutter - download ccleaner from www.download.com

Yeah sorry, it's a pain in the ass. But if it's recommending 300 and using 400 then I'd say it's already swapping heavily.
Right click on My Computer (2k / XP) and it'll show you the basics of your computer. Mine says:
Intel(R) Pentium(R)
processor 2.26Ghz
791 Mhz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
If the amount of RAM you have is less than 512Mb you might want to consider upgrading.

I'm using XP pro on a 1493 Mhz chip with 256 MB RAM, 74 MB avail physical memory, page file space 545MB. Do I need more RAM?
See what the typical virtual memory commit charge is, and make sure you have at least that much physical RAM and space for a swap file at least double that size, and still at least 20% free on the disk.

Thanks guys, 1Gb RAm ordered from crucial. Sorry V8 I'm too stupid to follow those hints, just have to hope the memory upgrade'll do the job
Once it's fitted you might need to open the properties for Virtual Memory again, just to make sure Windows has recalculated. But other than that you should be sorted.

How do I do that? I have the setting on 'let windows choose' at present

Yeah, go there and make sure the figures have changed. If not toggle between 'manual' and 'automatic' and the damn OS should get the right idea

ok 1Gb installed and nothing seems to have changed, toggled between auto etc and it still only sees 256MB, reseated DIMM and now have 1.21 GB RAM

Set it to auto and reboot, if that doesn't work set it to manual, 1500MB and forget about it.
