Petrol Vapour Escaping

I posted this on the general gassing forum but havent had many responses and im still unsure as what to do.
On sunday i parked my car after the PH run and noticed in my wing mirror a haze coming from the petrol cap. I took the petrol cap off and noticed a small hole under the filler point.
Is this a major problem? Can i just fill the hole? Or might there be more internal damage to the fuel piping.
If its just a case of filling it should i use body filler or weld it?
One thought i did have is that there are petrol vapours escaping, therefore if i fill the hole will this cause a dangerous pressure build up?
Any thoughts are welcome!!

Where does the hole go too?
If it goes through into the filler neck then I would seal it with polysulphide sealant. The stuff used to seal car body panels. It needs to be sealed as water will collect there and make its way into the tank.
If it just goes to the underside of the wing/wheel arch then I would leave it alone.
The petrol vapour would have been there anyway as the tank has to vent. You probably just haven't spotted it before.

I believe the actual filler neck and tank are plastic on all 205s and so there shouldn't be any rust through the actual pipes. I'll check on mine tomorrow and see where exactly the breather pipe exits, as that little hole could be it. I'll get back to you 
Its probably time to worry (or run) when it stops doing this in warm temperatures as there may be a build up of pressure occurring!

Odd looking thing you have attached to your filler cap. Never seen one like that before, at a guess it is some sort of restrictor to prevent the use of non-unleaded pumps.
Pretty sure there is a hole there on my cars though, figured it was to prevent a small pond of water forming under the cap but have never bothered to check it out.

Yer the filler system and cap is a plain add on one put on by the previous owner. When i have the money i'll put a propper GTI one on.

Haha all i can say is that i saw the hole and the pertol vapour and being a broke student autamatically thought how much? and how to fix it?.

No, don't fill it, as said you filler pipe is plastic, which, unless they've changed something since I did Science, doesn't rust!
It is there to let water out, I would be inclined to drill a fresh whole slightly bigger where it is (Don't do it with the cap off or it could go BANG!) and then treat it with some red oxide or other rust preventer.
The whole in the filler neck isn't a whole it is a pipe that lets air escape so when your filling you don't end up wearing highly combustible trousers!!

i think its just part of the base of the fuel neck that screws to the other side of the panel and not the fuel neck its self, what you should do is shine a bright light down the filler neck and see if you can see light through the hole if you can buy a second hand one and get it fitted not worth repairing only three screws at the cap end and a clip at the bottom hold it in place as for vapour coming from the cap area its self you prob need new cap seal or cap
