Chim racing drivers . . . .
Discussion
I see many posts on here about what Chim to buy, I have the slowest one (400) which some would have you believe is only just about powerful enough to crank a decent 500 to get it started. If a 400 is a slow car (and to be fair I have driven faster cars), how do we measure the drivers then? Personally, I would say that a 400 is not too slow to buy but then I have not only just missed my Formula One drive unlike some on here so I may not be in a position to judge.
I live in London where there are more Gatsos than people so it is fine there. I drive on motorways that you get an instant ban at anything over 100mph. I steal the odd thrash wherever I consider it safe to do so and could not really drive there much faster anyway. That begs the question where do all these budding racers use this extra power? I cannot believe that the more powerful cars are only bought only for track use.
So, my question is, how many Chim drivers are actually capable (as opposed to thinking they are capable) of driving these cars fast, or even quickly for that matter? Possibly more importantly where do they hone their fine skills without the rest of us subsidising their insurance claims? It seems to me the only qualification of driving one fast is having the money to buy and run it. Or am I missing something........................can’t wait.

Ummmm, surely any responses from Chimaera drivers themselves are rendered null & void by the very nature of this question

Personally I would like to think I am reasonably capable, however I have been lucky to have sat beside some proper racing & rally drivers, so I know how much better a really good driver can be

i agree....i am in the proces of buying my first tvr...however i am used to driving powerful cars and an advances driver,....there will be some(if not a lot )drivers out there with tvr's and the only qualification they have is money.......
i say learn to drive the things as well as owning them

I bought my first 400, part exchanged a VW Polo so the word slow didnt even feature. I knew I wasn't entirely capable of pushing it so booked a track/lesson with ID Club (www.id-club.com) that I saw on Pistonheads.
Excellent day with more instruction than just go on the track and see. I have enjoyed the driving much more since as I know mine and the cars limits more.

I think that the experience of owning and driving a Chim would make a person a better driver. You could learn more from a Chim than from a car that had traction control and ABS.
I lived on a farm as a kid and we had a MK2 Ford Escort that we would race around the field. It made me a better driver (in my opinion) than I would have been had I not had that opportunity, a clean insurance history backs that up.
Unfortunately it also made me a faster driver and a filthy driving licence backs that up!
It's all about getting the maximum enjoyment out of the car, for me that means driving it fast on the road and track, for some it means a pose around town with the roof off (OK sometimes I enjoy that too). The Chim would give you both be it a 400 or a 450?
