Wiper problems

Have had a look at a couple of other posts in the search forums on wiper problems - but hoping the PH collective can shed some light on a problem I'm having.

Can turn the wipers on and they immediately wipe from left to right, but then at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, they stop and make a click, click, click noise and don't wipe back to their original position.

If I give them a hand I have to push them all the way back to their start postion, then they will wipe as above and then stop again.

Now I have two suspects;

Park switch is not allowing them to come back ?

Gear mechansim has worn and so is not able to 'wind' the wipers back ?

I think the motor is o.k. otherwise would assume that the wipers wouldn't work in the first place?

Go for a park switch 1st and then look at a breakers for new gearbox/motor 2nd ?

Hum, I'd suspect a broken tooth on the gearbox, which would result in the clack sound?

But a new wiper switch is very cheap.

Rainex from Halfords is absolutely brilliant stuff - no wipers needed in all but the heaviest rain, the rain just slides off with the air flow.

At what speed do you need to do for Rainex to work? 30mph or faster?

does sound like a gear problem to me...

it is easy(ish) to get the motor out and have a look inside - this maybe your best bet.

Though when mine did this - no one seemed to supply the gear on its own...so I had to buy a whole new motor mechanism :-(

this is one of them things you just have to try to belive it,ive read about it on here a number of times so got some from halfords,£6 including a cleaning foam to use first before you apply rain x,great stuff

Cheers guys am off to torque rvt on Weds to get them sorted, between now and then will use the rain-X
