Bloody thing refused to start this morning after the school run. Mind you, I don't blame it, 3 mornings of short journeys with my son today listening to half an hours worth of some mindless drivel on the cd player and I wouldn't start either. grumpy

Anyway, does it have to be jumped from the footwell nuts or is there a +ve terminal under the bonnet.I only ask as I walked home without checking, have to go to work, so my wife is going to give it a go later as I'm on lates banghead

I Love tvrs.

Starter motor, difficult to access...

Alternator, not sure if the terminal is up to it or if you would damage any eletrickery bits

You might gather sparky bits are not my strong point

Cheers fellas, it's no doubt the battery as the rest is ok.

Footwell eh, what a fantastic idea that was.

I've just fabricated a fly lead made up from some jump leads and a Fork lift truck type connector that will be bolted to the battery terminals and the other half left in the boot. All I need to do is get round to fitting it.

I wouldn't have thought that 3 short runs would kill the battery unless the battery is on its way out or the alternator isn't charging.

Could it be the hot start problem? Let it cool & try again.

Some later models had an Anderson connector (the 'fork-lift' connector), alas not the Chimaera. So, unless someone has fitted the [similar] Leven kit under the bonnet the only realistic option is to connect the jump leads direct to the battery.

Connecting to the starter motor terminal is electrically ok, but physically impossible without being underneath the car. Don't connect to the alternator though. This is liable to not only melt the 100A fuse (if fitted), but also the alternator wiring, depending on how discharged the battery is.

hehe fnarr fnarr....

Thanks Mike, it was outside St mary's school, webbs wood road. Your offer of help very much appreciated. However, as per cider andy's post I had a root around the passenger seat and found the fork lift connector, had another root around the boot, and found the leads. It was then a case of running home, picking up the volvo (with a dicky starter motor rolleyes) and connecting them up. Hey presto, off she went.

Cheers folks, AND i've learnt something as well - my car has a connector which negates crawling under the dash ... bounce

Mike - Up for a meet / beer sometime?

Will that be in the boot that only opens electronically...so with a totally flat battery....hmmm... I now keep my jump leads inside the car having managed to leave the lights on all day and come back to a flat battery then find that the jumpleads are locked in the boot grrrr

That's only a problem if you haven't done the boot opening conversion!

I don't leave the lights on anymore since I fitted a lights on warning buzzer.

I'll take a pic of my connector if you like, it's situated behind the seat, but with enough cable to pull out, it's just a case of plugging the connector, then putting the croc clips onto the feed battery.

Marvellous idea.

I had a Chimaera with a female Leven type socket fastened to the front of the chassis. Looked like a good idea (never had to use it though! D)
