The cold questions again??
Discussion
Hi All,
Have been around the board's for a while but due to the fact of not owning a TVR have not really posted - however I bought a fantastic Tamora 3 weeks ago (thanks again Adam)- weekends have never gone by so quick....
Having looked through the search quickly, I can't quite seem to find what I am after so here goes.
On start-up recently, the Tam has not started first time and needs light throttle use to start-up, once started the problem goes away. Is this something to be worried about or is due to the cold weather?
Again when running it takes the car a long time to get above 50c and sometimes if there is no traffic will not much above 50c- again is this just due to the weather or something else?
Thanks for any help people

Hi SDK,
Your car should start without any throttle. I would want that sorted if it were mine - to prevent premature wear to the top end of the engine. Al being well, 30 minutes at a dealer on the lap top should sort it.
Your temperature "issue" is normal.
Glad you're enjoying the Tamora, excellent choice.

My T350 does the same, just a slight bit of throttle each time to get her fired up, I have had both the above suggestions done and neither made any difference, I have also had a recent engine rebuild, it did it before and still does it now, I don't think its anything to worry about just a quirk with your car (and mine it seems)

Hi G....errr Sundance ,
I can confirm that I saw the mechanic change the plugs, and put the car on the laptop...and all was perfect (this was just 2 weeks ago)...so I really don't think it can be either of those things.
He did ask me what revs I would like it to idle at, and I said I was happy with the 850 to 900 that it was already idling at, he said that was fine, but that sometimes people like it a tad higher. Not sure if this would make any difference?
Glad you are enjoying the car...hurry up and get some pics on your profile!!!!
Cheers Adam

What's the idle speed at startup? Anything less than 700rpm an it will either run very roughly, or stall until the oil's circulated. A lot of speed sixes seem to lose idle speed, but it is very easy to adjust. Just don't leave it to idle after starting. Get in it, and drive!
How easy? Can a numpty like me do it? And I mean numpty.

Yep! There's a threaded screw on the top centre of the engine, with a small locknut - sorry can't be more specific and I can't get a picture at the moment - that's the throttle idle speed jobbie. I think it's a 9mm spanner to undo the locknut and a 4mm Allen key to adjust the throttle speed. Start the engine from cold, loosen the nut and use the Allen key to turn the threaded screw until the revs are about 850rpm. Blip the throttle gently a few times so the idle speed settles, then tighten the locknut - this may change the idle speed a bit, so fiddle about with the locknut and screw until the idle speed is steady and the locknut is nice and tight. It may move again but just keep adjusting it.

OK, I make you right. Looks like I did it. There were two such doodahs, but I didn't spot the second until I'd already loosened the first, so looks like it was a lucky choice. The second one is slightly offset.
Cheers, there'll be no stopping me now. I might top up the oil next
